This event is at my home club.

Thornbury Sailing club is close to the village of Oldbury-on-Severn.

Sailing is on the severn eastuary which boasts clear wind from the prevailing SW however launching is sheltered.
Thornbury is a small but freindly club so we will be made very welcome.  Their small fast handicap fleet are mostly asymmetrics so the courses will suite us.

The club will be providing food at very reasonable prices  and the bar will be open as long as people want beer.

While there is plenty of space to camp for free, people are welcome to come to our house 20 minutes away. Some beds and lots of floor space. Friday nighters are also welcome.

i understand that entry is being pegged at £15 for double handers so an absolute bargin for a weekend event.

Ideal for those who can't afford the petrol to get to Sunderland or don't want to spend so long in the car.

accomodation  on site camping or at my house if the weather's not so good.

Are people thinking of going to this?  I'm hoping to be sorted for Sunderland and will make the drive down if theres going to be a couple of boats around.  May need a crew to but waiting to hear from somone at the sailing club first.

Hi Anyone who's driving a long way is welcome to come over on Friday night.  just let us know.

We have some space on the drive for a few boats.  My post code is BS37 5EU for those using Sat nav.

Having sailed at Thornbury a few times now  you may wish to brush up on your tidal tactics.  The club is looking forward to seeing us all.  There are always a few quizically looking people standing around our boat.

Ross,

I can make some calls and find you a crew if you want?  PM me your details and I will put them in touch.  I had no problem finding a willing voluenteer for a crew at Thornbury the other week.  The boat sells it'self.

Hi again.

For those licking their wounds after last weekend you will be glad that the forecast is for gentler winds at Thornbury.

It looks like being a force 2 SW 'erly but this should be increased by the severn eastury's funnel effect.

Directions:  for Sat Nav'ers  the post code of the Anchor Inn in Oldbury on Severn (just past the gate for the club) is BS35 1 QA.

The carpark for the above pub is adjacent to the club gate.  The gate will be open from aprox 9:30-10:00am but Sarah intends to get there in good time so you shouldn't have a problem getting in.

For those using maps
From the North:

Come off the M5 at Junction 14.  head south on the A38 and take the first right Sign posted towards Thornbury.  Just before you reach Thornbury turn right towards Oldbury on severn.  Follow signs towards Oldbury and Cowhill and ignore signs to the power station.

From the south east or west you have the option of joining the A38 at the M4/M5 interchange (J20 on M4 or J15 on the M5) .  from this direction take the 2nd left towards thornbury.  turn right at the roundabout.  At the stangered cross roads go straight on and follow signs to Oldbury and Cowhill.

The is plenty of grass to rig on in front of (South) and to the left (east) of the club house.

The only caution is that the races run on time to get the racing in before the water disappears  so don't leave launching to late.

In an onshore breeze you can recover on to the mud bank to the west of the slip way if the slip way is busy. The mud is hard enough to stand on.
