Alex's first club races
« on: March 30, 2014, 10:10:24 PM »
Well given the good forecast and this being the first sail of Frampton's season team Kirk set out to do what we do best. Spending much of the races sparing with Sarah. Alex and Phil (in the enterprise) managed to pull clear to get a 5th, 1st and 6th before it was time for a nap. The action was close but there were always extra challenges to overcome. One of Alex's treasured toy cars got posted in the centerboard case and had to be rescued by raising the board. (fortunately we were on a reach).  The fly away pole undid itself from the jib requiring some by the lee sailing to goosewing the jib on the runs. Alex is still a little small for the ent not being able to reach the floor with his feet when sitting on the seats but when the wind speed is within our range boy it's quick.  Since he doesn't tack yet (the case is too high) we are quicker upwind on one tack than the other.  So he's won his first club race at 2 years and 6 weeks.  Might loose the cars if we sailed the cherub together at present.

Well done Alex for helping your dad to win his first race of the season. Don't worry about not being able to tack yet, it's overrated. When you progress to E-Numbers you'll find we only tack once a lap anyway. I'm glad you got your car back ok. Now dads got his confidence up, he probably won't need you to hold his hand and may be brave enough to try Cherub sailing. See if you can talk him into it as it would be great to see mum and dad back out on the circuit.
