Shroud tension on a Dog
« on: July 19, 2013, 10:53:17 AM »
Hi,
I have acquired Cheese before bedtime from the Hamilton's , and hope to be sailing her at the nats, I'm just wondering if anyone has an idiots guide to rig set up.
Thanks
Jamie

Mast pointing upwards, pole out the front, foils out the bottom. Attach sails to the poles and you are good to go.

Well you did say idiots...  ;)

Hi Jamie,

This was one of the big unknowns that we faced when we joined the class.  Coming from a class where everyone used the same or similar kit and each sailmaker provided a very similar tuning guide/ idiots guide it was easy to get it right quickly.

When we started sailing Slippery we used a main shroud tension of 400 lbs as we did for the enterprise.  You can probably use a bit less.  Mast rake should be set to leave you with a slight weather helm when the boat it sailing upright.  Cap shrouds, d2's and lowers need to be set up to match the mainsail.  So it is a bit of trial and error.  However this will be down to how it looks when sailing.

I would suggest getting out and sailing the boat make a few tweaks and sailit again etc.  If John hasn't changed the settings that Paul had it should be pretty good.

Hi Jamie, I suggest you pm Paul Croote, he had Cheese for a number of years and was very competitive. I'm sure he would be able to give you a great starting point.

Tim: oh dear....
Phil/Simon: Thank you very much, i will take on board what you have said, you never know, we might be able to attempt corners by the nats.
Thanks
Jamie
