Draycote Practice Week
« on: March 12, 2008, 11:45:42 AM »
This is from the 14th to the 18th April 2008.

The agenda is simple: Get together and sail a lot for five days. Previous graduates of this scheme will verify that it is a proven technique for improving your sailing.

Bring GPSs and headcams.

The cost is £20 per day or £70 for the whole week.

If you can only come for a few of the days consider this: the first part of the week is more like practice, and the last part of the week will be more like training.

See you there!

Will

It was excellent last year, but very very very cold and breezy until the purchase of a full on steamer persuaded the sun to come out & the breeze to p*ss off!

This year it is a little later in the hope of avoiding hypothermia.

We learnt lots last year about how to make ourselves improve: v.short courses to get the hoists and drops slick, setting the stopwatch for 45s, then 30s to practice tacking & gybing on the beep, getting the boat going from stationary, and land drills etc etc. More of the same this year, but as Will says the first few days are likely to involve more rig fiddling & capsize drill :-\

Thoroughly recommended, bring ALL the wetsuits etc you possess.

We hope to be there for a few days.  We have seen the boat's potential and know we need the practice.

We have a few minor repiars to do after Weston but hopefully they will be sorted tonight.

Update:

Peter Barton, outlandishly successful sailor, excellent coach, all round good egg and new owner of Ronin will be coaching us on WEDNESDAY 16th of April, and sticking around for the next day or two too.

Please post here if you are short a crew, helm, or boat (and which days you are planning to come)

The cost is £20 per day, up to a maximum of £70 for the week. The coaching is no extra cost (due to the swift action of Peter by connecting us to the RYA Topmark Scheme).

Those present include:

Lucy and Will Lee in Dangerous Beans
Richard Taylor and Sam Childs in Subtle Knife

Please fill in your presence and crew/helm/boat requirements below and we'll try to match everyone up.

What is the situation with Eggbert, Ben?

Seeing as we are all grown ups, the plan is to be there for 10 every day, then to do a little rigging, eat, change and hit the water for a long session from a bit before 12 until we are all knackered. A break may be organised depending on the weather.

This is a tentative plan and is variable.

I'm as yet unsure if I can make it. I seem to have a Kestrel Open the weekend following the practise week which is in Calshott! I will try and make the Wednesday though, sounds like it's going to be cracking.
