(Not) Ice Bimbling
« on: January 18, 2010, 10:58:32 PM »
Thanks to Peter for his excellent article on Ice Bimbling. It got me back to thinking about Team Scotland's maiden voyage in the Flying Trifle. After picking her up from Datchet, we were desperate to get out for a sail, regardless of the weather. I managed to dig out some old photos:

Venue: Loch Earn, Perthshire
Date: Early February 1995
Ice Bimbling preparations: None, except for good old Basic Stupidity

Step 1: Arrive at venue, having overtaken 2 snowploughs on the way there

Step 2: Get rigged. Put on 3mm wetsuit and a woolly hat. Disengage brain.

Step 3: Attempt to launch. Immediately lose any prospect of fathering any male children.

Step 4: Capsize several times. Finally get going and enjoy some excellent Cherub sailing:

Step 5: Retire to the pub for several beers and a few hot whiskies.

Desperate to go sailing in her?!.... I'll say... that looks like the same shirt you were wearing when you picked the boat up from me at Datchet!  ;D Did you just drive to the lake!

Fantastic! Certainly qualifies as scenic sailing with the hills & snow

It's no wonder that people think that Cherub sailors are a bit wacky!

I'm comming to  conclusion we may be more like addicts.

I am looking forward to getting wet this weekend (after a 4 month+ layoff). H+I spent a happy hour last night replacing the jib wire  and repairing drysuits.
