Many thanks go to Atum and Shiny for joining us at our home club event.
with hot sunshine both days and about 10 knots saturday and 15 knots on Sunday it was one of the best sails to be had.
Everyone coped with the strong tides which gave for short beats and long runs in the first race each day and longer beats and short runs in the second races. Wind against strong tides causing some standing waves made for difficult tacking and gybing. Due to the wind direction a simple windward course could not be set on the fixed marks . The result was a reaching start and two beats. The crews complained about all the hoists and drops and were absolutly exhausted by the end. The sailing became more difficult on Sunday when a 26 strong laser fleet joined in for their open. At times we had to play dodge the laser when short tacking up the shore crossing their reach or on the start line. With more wind and a 2 sail reach on the course ithe sailing was a bit more demanding.
Team Atum bom; Will and Tim won day 1's racing while Paul and Will won day two's racing,
team Slippery ; Phil and Sarah recently unused to anything more than a light breeze came 5th and day 1 and 4th on day two.
Team shiny; Problems with a new spinnaker halyard not making friends with the cleat meant that Dave and Lara could only finish about 7th on day 1. They sailed better on day two after an overnight fix.
As always the hospitality was excellent. The cheap pleantiful food, well stocked bar and evening ceildhi was enjoyed by all. There is some video evidence somewhere.
There was also talk that the event could be put into the main series next year!
