Why not? Structurally strong, light and malable. Take Aggro for a sail and you'll be amazed what a woody can do.

marine ply is pricier and much better quality than the stuff your find in a hardware store. While it is probably cheaper than foam the difference in the overal build price will not be great.

If they can build down to wait and the hull has enough stiffness, I will be impressed.
