Troubled times ahead

The layup for today's infusion was:

A) Inner bag. Held at 0.6bar vaccing against plug. There is a metal tap stopping the bag crushing the plug (vac between bag and skin of plug)

B) a layer of resin infusion mesh (woven not crosses)
C) BREAD Wrap
D) Peel ply
E) carbon
F) foam in places
G) another  vac bag.  This also goes around the metal plug tap. Vac is between inner bag and outer bag. This gives a fantastic vac.

Infuse the lot.

Result. Inner skin is really well bonded to the foam. The foam is shaped to the bits that are really curvy, especially the concave bits.

On Monday I tidy with a router and fill in the gaps.

On Tuesday I sand off all the excess resin bits and refair with a longboard and hopefully infuse the outer skin over the top.

Wednesday, spare incase I sail on Tuesday

FRIDAY - pop the skin off, put it back on and change the inner bag, repeat layup and infuse again

Wow, quite exciting.

With the infusion how do you avoid getting too much resin into the cells of the foam? I have only ever infused monolythic parts as I have been too concerned about excess weight.

For the next one foam with no holes. For this one, accept the loss of weight.

I left gaps between the foam pieces so there is no "reisn puddles" hidden away anywhere. The infusions took in 6kg and 4kg respectively - but I think that is the difference between the mesh and the woven infusion stuff. I am hopeful that almost all of this resin has gone into the consumables. Great for Wiz and his friends if reading :0)

Tomorrow I'll weigh the bin bags with the outer peel ply and mesh. Cna say already that they feel heavier than the skin (with mesh/peelply still on the inside)

Remember - I am 100% allergic to the resin. So have no choice but to try and learn a new method. If I could I would be wet laying as it is lighter and easier for sure :-)

3 bin bags of stuff that was inside the bags went out today. 9kg of weight.

A meaningless number before i weigh the dry peel ply and infusion mesh used. That will be tomorrows fun.

It will be interesting to see how it turns out. I do like the process of infusion, you can take your time getting everything positioned right, then it is so cool watching the resin flow in.
