Valentine's sticky weekend 2016
« on: January 25, 2016, 05:37:01 PM »
When - 13/14th Feb
Where - Bristol
What - Not really sure, please post requests below

Sticky weekend - A chance for cherub folk to meet, talk about projects, make things, teach each other and swap ideas. High probability of a curry

Space is more limited than usual as this weekend will be at the smaller BGM workshop BS3 5QE
(so please dont arrive at Weston Super Mare)

It would be good to have an idea of projects people are up for. We can then shuffle space as appropriate. Inside we only have room for 2 boats or 1 boat and pole/boom/foil making at any one time. There is an option of a marquee in outside tho and plenty of parking/bimbling space.

Accomodation: Floor space available in non dusty, epoxy free, warm conditions and even a shower. Kitchen and "sail loft" facilities also on site. All welcome to it.

In an ideal world I'd try get afloat sat/sunday, so maybe bring a boat and a date?

As it is a sticky weekend I thought that I would try and find the leak on A+E.

I think the leak may be from that dodgy bow fitting?

If you make that hull section into a hatch you could put a camping stove and maybe a little fridge for those breaks between races.
Maybe a couple of inflatables for chairs. Definitely one up on the camper van idea.

Stickiness was limited due to the use of infusin!
Saturday me and robin rocked up at the crack of noon to find mr trim, mr Croote and mr Horsley huddled round a table with pen and paper furiously scribbling away.
A plan was hatched for Mandy to take away and apply to Eva.
Project 1: drilling the holes in subtles mast. Croote and idiot Pearson teamed up to attack the bandaged ctech. Croote managed to drill the holes through the repair and for them to be in the same place as the old ones. Magic

While that was happening, robin, Mandy and Roland starterd luring up the boom mandrel, prepping the vac bag, and doing a test (no resin or cloth)
Cloth was then cut and glued(spray glue) on the to mandrel to hold it on place. Cloth was some infusion unis, a layer of quad axial heavy stuff and another layer of infusion unis.

Resin was mixed and it turns out this proves really does suck.
Then the obligatory watching paint dry. Time to watch 'how to train your dragon 1'

Day 2:
Get up around 12 ish, unpeal the vac bag, ooooo, bit wrinkled.
Fit subtles mast on to boat, a make boat breaker.
Get out winch to remove mandrel from boom.

Summary, Roland can now make things again with proper resin with a whole lot less risk of his face exploding. Booms and poles are possible, but it will need to be done in two hits, rather then one that we tried.

As always, sounds bad in the write up, but a brilliant weekend.

Will upload link to Flickr as soon as possible.
Thanks
Jamie
