suicide blonde - rig tension advice
« on: January 25, 2016, 10:45:44 AM »
Hi all

I've recently bought suicide blonde and I am currently tidying it up and getting it ready for sailing later this year.

I was wondering if anyone could offer any advice on what sort of rig tension I should be running on this boat as I have no idea!

My foils are also in a pretty sorry state so Im on the lookout for a half decent replacement set if anybody knows of some for sale?

Thanks

Ben

Hello and welcome.
SB is a lovely weapon and there are many ex owners of her still active on this site and sailing other cherubs.
As the briefest member that club - when she was mine the main shrouds made an approximation of a "G"  on a bass guitar. Somewhere in the 30 region on the unreliable gauge thingies.

Where are you based?

Awesome, thanks.

That gives me a good point to start off from.

I'm based in West Mersea, Essex. I'm hoping to have the boat ready for the first event on the 2nd April, just need to make myself some Sails!

You may well struggle to find second hand foils that will fit the boat. How bad are they? Major foil tip grafts are quite a good introduction to the materials...

I thought that could be an issue, the rudder blade isn't too bad, I would like to try and learn how to make it into a t foil! The daggerboard is fairly lumpy though.

I'll have to pay my membership this week and try and get to the next sticky weekend with them and start learning how to use carbon.

You'd be welcome to bring foils or even the whole boat to the weekend just posted?

Does she have any rags to get you started?

I will actually be in Bristol for that weekend visiting my girlfriend, not sure if I'll manage to convince her to let me go play with boats but I'll chuck my foils in the car just incase. Hopefully I'll be able to pop over and say hello at least.

I have an old set if Sails that will do for now, just feel like I should make my own as I'm a sailmaker!

comon then Bennyb, sell yourself - who is the sailmaker?
There are plenty of wanabees on this site and also customers with budding and blithering requests, me being one of them.

Suicide Blonde is a great boat and up there with Sweet Dreamzzz, Comfortably Numb and Cheese to name a few.

Don't think carbon is difficult to work with. It is so much easier than glass and other laminating fabrics. The main difference is what type you should use and where but, hey, that is the art of the true 'Cherubist'.
look forwards to seeing you soon. The best inland, Midland, location is Draycote. See you there soon, hopefully.

Suicide Blonde, the boat that got me in to sailing, later on, cherub sailing.

was parked across the road from my green cadet at draycote, i dont know what it was, all i knew was that it was yellow, and silly.
i wanted it.
as the years rolled by i heard stories about how a friends dad and some guy called Iain did a full cartwheel going upwind right in front of the club house!
I WANTED IT!

I do hope she will be yellow again ;)
Thanks
Jamie

I am considering a re-paint, She's currently blue but I'm still undecided what colour to do her, might have to try and get some yellow in there somewhere. The new kite is going to be yellow for sure!

If she is thill the metalic blue that we painted her, it should be relitivly easy to remove as its only car paint, the only pain was under the white deck there are lines of green paint. From what i remeber had some sort of led in so was a nightmare to get rid.( we where sanding through carbon before making a massive impact so gave up and painted over)
