Musto Speed Challenge
« on: May 15, 2015, 01:59:14 PM »
Anyone else thinking that a cherub would be well suited to the musto speed challenge? using max speed and published PY number fastest 10 go through to race at the Southampton boat show.

I suspect that we will not get very good results.
The Cherub achieves some great speeds in fairly moderate conditions but it is hard to drive and stay on-board when it is truly howling.
The highest speed we have recorded is 20kts. We can do 18kts in 15kts of wind.
I believe that Andy and Jill have had 22kts out of their RS200.
We have had 200s out at HISC sailing with the anemometer exceeding 40kts. You cannot do that in a Cherub.

We have signed up and will take the GPS out with the foils on A+E this weekend.

What we need is a 2015 Rules Cherubs which has smaller sails and single trapeze so you can really max it when breezy...

I can only get to 16 knots in shiny.
Although I am then pointing dead down wind (sometimes below it!)
Thanks

We had a top speed of 12kts based on point to point on the GPX file or 14.1 based on the device doppler max speed reading. This was whilst sailing upwind.
Conditions were much gustier this weekend and we were really struggling for control particularly downwind.
The foils are a long way off being able to get around a race track.
The boat is back home and the grinder is out.
There seems to be stretch in every part of the control linkage and I think that this is what is causing our problems.
