Awesome Evening Sail
« on: July 09, 2008, 10:32:32 PM »
Had an excellent sail this eveining, it was blowing dogs off chains. An easterly at Largs so off the shore and flat water but very gusty, I joked to carol that we should go for a hoist as it was down wind start she hoisted straight away and we just flew.
Got to the leward mark dropped and we could barely sail up wind had main and jib flogging with the boat going sideways in the gusts no chance of tacking so just sailed upwind till we got to the shore were there were enough lulls to tack. It was then a close reach back to the slip
Managed to get back in with only a small rip in the jib and a few more holes in the main.

the anemometor on top of the clydeport crain was reading gusts of 45Kts so it was probably steady 30 gusting 40 were we were. Seriously windy, no one could beleve we put the kite up. Definatly a good day to be in a 91 rules boat.
