Finally have a date for the sticky weekend 17th and 18th of January 2015. For anyone who hasn't attended before, it's a great opportunity to gain the knowledge and skills required for repairing and building boats, foils and spars etc. . Anyone planning on bringing projects / boats please post details so I can prepare.

Saturday evening social /meal will be in the local curry house

Accommodation, if you are feeling brave and have a good sleeping bag you are welcome to stay in the workshop or the local Travelodge is only about a mile away. There are also loads of local B&B's

The workshop address is - Unit B1, Oldmixon Crescent, Weston-s-Mare, North Somerset. BS24 9AY.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for hosting this once again!

Following last years mast success, I'd like to make a new pole for Norfolk. I have an appropriate mandrel and materials - just need the space and another pair of hands to complete it.

Hi Paul

As discussed previously we would like to re-varnish New Tricks if we can.
We will obviously rub down prior to arriving. There are also some holes in the deck where old fittings have been, could we put some hardwood dowels into these then cut and sand prior to spraying.

I can offer 3 rooms, 2 sofas, an abundance of floor space, coffee/tea and something to eat in the morning.

I live about 20 mins away next door to BCYC sailing club if anyone wants to try any of their mods out.

Hi Tom
Yes no problem, have you got any shrink tape?

Hi Simon

The best varnish to use is the international paints two-part perfection. The lacquers we use are not uv stable. Car lacquer is too brittle (it flakes of a carbon mast within a a few months but the perfection lasts years). Drying time may be an issue so if you can brush on a coat over most it and de nib we should be able to do the hardwood dowel and spray a coat on Friday evening (if you can make it) and one of Saturday evening.

I've not got any shrink tape, I was just intending on wrapping peel ply very tightly, followed by putting it in a vac bag.  This seemed to work with the boom.

Nice one Paul, thank you for hosting this yet again - you are real class stalwart

I've got a couple of relatively small projects.

I. Loco's mast - needs a bit of grinding down and then a repair near the upper spreaders, making good and the spreaders glueing back on.

II. Fit lifting foil to main foil - I hope to screed the vertical foil prior to January, family situation permitting.

Somehow I double-ordered carbon when making the vertical foil and I have acres of weave and uni, available free to small projects or at a very reasonable price if anybody wants lots. I think it's all around the 180-200gsm weight ie fairly hefty.
Previously 2685 'Loco Perro' and 2345 'Tachyon'

Hi,

I'd like to make a new pole if possible - mine is bent and doesn't fit properly anyways. Does anyone have a mandrel that they aren't using I could borrow, and what materials will I need to buy and brig with me to make one?

Cheers,

Robin :)

If possible id like to attempt to make a T-foil from rolands moulds if they are not being used.

again as robin says, 'what materials will I need to buy and brig with me to make one?'

Failing that, i am happy to be an emergency pair of hands.
Thanks
Jamie
