2501 offered free for full restoration
« on: August 14, 2014, 09:36:13 AM »
Good morning team, had 2501 languishing in my fathers garage for over 10 years and now he wants the space back. if anyone would be interested in the boat you are very welcome to have it for free and save it from becoming firewood! It is in need of total restoration, and is on an ancient trolley, with mast, one set of knackered sails and a boom I think! It is in the north east, and he will destroy it shortly if no one wants it.

I have been in contact with Martin about 2501. This could make a really good project for someone on a tight budget. It's a Spencer 7, probably the last John Spencer - designed Cherub built in the UK if not the world, so in some ways the last real Cherub. It is stripped back to bare wood, needs re-decking and general tlc but is otherwise basically sound and could be returned to glory with a little bit of effort. Would make a fun club handicap or classic Nationals contender in its current guise, or could be upgraded to '97 Rules with some new sails. Please somebody take it before I succumb to the temptation to add another project to my garage myself!!

Hi,

I'm rather interested, Just a couple of questions,
How soon would it need to be collected?
Do you know if the trolley would fit a west Mersea road trailer?
Is the boat rigged for an asymmetric kite?
Also do you have any photos of the boat?

Cheers

I'm happy to dry store it for as long as I live where I do - I agree with Neil, its an important boat that we should be keen to preserve until someone can restore to former glory.

Have placed an advert on apolloduck with a photograph to give an impression of the condition of the boat, as unable to post photos here due to file naming convention issues!

Evening all, 2 voices of interest but both have  subsequently changed their minds, therefore last chance if anyone wants her before my father cuts her up on Saturday! She would not need to be collected immediately but if no one has expressed an interest by then it will be firewood this weekend!

Hi Martin, I really don't want to see this one go on the bonfire. Can you text me the postcode of where it's located so I can try to work out logistics. Neil.

On closer inspection I don't have spare capacity for this one I'm afraid. If you're at all interested get in there quick or it will go to Valhalla.

If we can find a way to get her to Kent I will dry store it until a suitable restorer becomes available.
