Further Modifications to Spanish over 2014
« on: January 09, 2014, 11:33:53 AM »
Hiya Guys,

Hope you all have had a Great new year,

Im looking at upgrading bits and bobs on Spanish this year before major events. My crew and I will be travelling to 'Most' of the Cherub organised events this year. However My father and I are looking at upgrading the boat with some more carbon and I would like some advice as how to go bout it. Things we are looking at upgrading are; Foils, Carbon pole, Carbon boom, potentially Carbon Racks, Rig setup and some new square top sails (kite main and jib 97 rules). If you have any advice and know how of how to do anything on the list; i.e materials, methods, prices and where to find stuff like sails, please get in contact.

Many Thanks

Alex

Hi Alex,

I would suggest that you probably already have one of the least used sets of 97 rules sails in the fleet as your boat has had a quiet life in recent years. I would suggest speaking to Dynamic, Batt or perhaps your local sail maker if you wish to upgrade as you will probably have to buy new.

Have you used the search on the forum or looked through the tech pages of the main website as there is quite a lot of info there regarding laminate spec and techniques. If you need any more specific details then people will be more than happy to help.

I normally use Marineware for my bits and pieces. I'll PM you the price list if you like, although I find that unless you can collect the goods then delivery is a lot!

Cheers,

Tim

Hi Alex,
Removed your duplicate post. Looking forward to seeing you at some (hopefully all) of the events. All of the things you mention are buildable, and many people in the class do. Someone will be along soon to advise as to where to get materials from if you want to go that route. I think there are class mandrels for poles and booms kicking about. Sails are a matter of preference. You can make your own again but pro made ones have recently been had from Hyde, P&B and Dynamics. For kites, North are popular but more expensive than Hydes. For pro made foils, bloodaxe are very good although a few people have recently bought new super high aspect boards from elsewhere (composite craft?) and t-foils from daemon yachts.

Alex,
What about the I14 mast?
then just put the sails in the washing machine to shrink them down to size?
Thanks
Jamie

Also worth talking to "Chopperado" if you need a hand. From memory he has some connections with sail makers in your vicinity!

ADD to that - find a time to come sail some '05 rules boats as crew/helm. Best way to work out what you want for your ride is to try a few others. PM me if you are ever heading west as I would be happy to have you at the stick or trimming the main on any of our boats...
