NZ Cherubs - The rise, fall......and rise again?
« on: December 19, 2013, 04:56:51 PM »
All been a bit quiet on here lately. The crappy winter weather and short days don't do much for sailing enthusiasm this time of year. If you've got a little time for Cherubby stuff on your hands you might like to read through the story on the following link.

I went hunting on the web for any signs of life in the NZ Cherub Class these days. This is a really interesting forum discussion describing the NZ Cherubs from the 1980's through to their crash in mid-90's (I still can't work out why) and some signs that the class might be rising from the ashes again in the last couple of years. Maybe these guys could do with some encouragement from the northern hemisphere......

My impression was there were two factors in NZ. The first was that the Kiwi NA started strongly encouraging International classes at the expense of their native ones, and the second was the fallout from the 84 international split. I could easily be wrong at this distance though.
