145kg too heavy?

Hi,
My crew and I are interested in a twin trapeze skiff (based at QMSC) and are possibly interested in a cherub. We were wondering if 145kgs is too heavy for a cherub (particularly in the lighter stuff)

The Cherub is more sensitive to crew weight than many boats but i don't think you are over the ideal by a long way. what do others think? 130kg is often quoted as ideal, I think and it's swings and roundabouts come the windy stuff, so you'd find it starting to come back to you above 10-12kn of wind.

Are you thinking twin wire?

We're definitely thinking twin wire yep.. I'm going to be in the US for the inlands so I may send my crew down.. if not I'll chat with Andy and Jill at QM

We are 145kg as well. It's not ideal in light airs, but we still managed 4th at the nationals in mainly light winds and when the wind is over about 12knots you will get properly flat twinning and really rip!

Cherubs are less sensitive to crew weight than most boats.
1 you can set the boat to suit your weight
2 rigs are very adjustable.
I have been on both sides of the spectrum at one time or another and results have always been talent/boat speed based not helm weight.
If weight was so important there wouldn't be so many portly boats out there.
Just try one and measure the smile and your bank balance if both are reasonably large you will be competitive if the talent allows.
If the bank balance isn't then who cares your smiling and non competitive cherubing is fun

The Australian Cherub Nationals were won by a 156kg crew a few years back, and that was with smaller rigs than the UK boats use. Go for it.

You can have a go in our boat and find out for yourself.  If there is a bit of breeze we are usually at QMSC on Sunday and you are welcome to have a go after racing.   Just bring your trap harnesses. 

FYI we weigh 130kg and start depowering in 12knts and go down to small jib over 15-16knts so as Paul says you may suffer a little in sub F3 but F3 and over you will be fine.

Sam and I were 175kg "Wet and Clothed" at the Pwllheli nationals (5th). In anything less than 12 kts we were pretty slow but in the windy stuff it definitely helps to have a bit more lard on the wire. At 145 you would be far from the heaviest crew out there.
