Cherub/B14 Inlands lost property dept.
« on: November 11, 2012, 10:22:02 PM »
If any Cherubists find an unfamiliar boat-breaker amongst their gear could they post here and I'll put them in touch with the owner. It was last seen near a pile of Cherub covers & gear - a silly place to leave it if you sail a B14!

Nigel managed to lose an entire road base, not sure what it looked like, but in the extremely unlikely event that it fitted a B14 I'm sure we could arrange a swap back !

The funny thing is the road base would fit a B14 (several of them had the same trailer...it's a West Mersea 'A-frame' with 10" wheels, hugely over-engineered for a Cherub) and for a while that was the best guess as to its whereabouts...unfortunately I think it would be an impossible stunt to use 2 road bases simultaneously and there was no unclaimed road base to use for Loco temporarily while the (hungover?) B14 owner noticed their error.

The whereabouts of the road base is a mystery and insurers are being informed. QMSC staff searched the entire grounds before it went dark and I double checked the nooks and crannies....

I'm sure we'll all keep an eye out for these things, I'll make sure all of our "pikey students" that cant afford computers are aware.

I suspect foul play.  My helm many years ago at a L4000 meeting had his roadbase stolen from QMSC whilst we were out racing.  It is rare to get stuff stolen from there but when there are a number of events on concurrently (lots of people) it has been known to happen.  Where did you leave it - we always put ours in the boatpark so not easy to get quickly out?  Has it got any recognisable markings, if so I'll keep my eye out for it.

Thanks Andy...it was moved into an empty space by a helpful chap who I'm beginning to suspect. Certainly Phil in the office looked quizzically at me when I said it was removed by a QMSC 'helper'.

It's a West Mersea A frame combi base with 10" wheels. It could take boats up to 14' or so. It's unlikely it was removed at night because they close the outer gates.

Loco is secure and has very little gear left in her. My only anxiety is the C-Tech mast.

Nigel, If you're worried I can pick Loco up and bring her to my house, I will be passing that way soon. We can arrange some kind of convoy to your gaff if required.

Actually, thinking about it I have a spare West Mersea 275 in the garden, its not doing anything, I'd be happy to take it to QM or anywhere and we'll convoy locco.

Hi Graham...thinking....

Once the dust settles I am likely to replace the base with a double stacker. Loco is safe.

I'll get back to you. West Mersea trailers are Essex and I'm thinking of a long, looping trip to pick up the stacker and return via QMSC.

If you have storage space and you'd picked up Loco that could be a trip swinging by at yours...not sure how this pans out practically tho',

Theres not a lot of difference between you getting to QM and me, 30 mins or so. Let me know if you'd like me to do anything.

I can go up Saturday morning and tie down Loco in our dinghy park space as Usagi is in our garage for the winter.  I doubt anything will be taken off Loco.  We leave our boat with all its gear (apart from the sails) up at the club March through to November.  Nothing has gone missing.

Thanks Andy...Loco is securely tied down on the wire down at the water's edge in view of the clubhouse, which sounds fine, especially from what you say.

We checked on Loco Sunday.  Looked securely tied down out of the way so we left her where she was. Will be fine there until you can pick her up.

Thanks mate, just sorting out a trailer base loan from Graham (if it fits) and current plans are to pick her up about 7/8th Dec...might ask to kip on your floor, though GB has offered me a bed  :)

...seriously, I am more than happy on the floor, if you are around, as I am a seasoned wild camper

I'm probably around - I say probably as I know Jill is away so I might go off too.  If I'm here there is a bed available if you need it.  You can borrow our road base but if it is that weekend two of you will need to come down as we have stacked the boats up for the winter on it so would need help to un-stack and re-stack as Jill isn't here.
