New '97 Rules kite
« on: August 26, 2012, 10:48:54 AM »
What SMOD (or other) kite gets closest to the right size/shape to function, with modification?

I think Loco's bowsprit is approx same length as dedicated '97 Rules boats ie shorter than E6/Banshee

It would be for club racing

I am not sure on the kites Q. We have the topper xenon kite... used it in a race at the club at the weekend, overall in gusty stuff on small lakes we needed to do to much offing to lay the next mark of the course. I think it has too much volume up top for a lightweight crew.We have a 29r kite and I still need to get Joe to use it next race, however its PINK! My first thoughts are, with Joe anyway,  bugger the size and go as small and as flat as possible if its puddle course race sailing yer doin. Therefore more kites to buy!!! but which ones???
Anyway Nigel your welcome to try our black xenon one, and PINK one. shall we try to arrange something on a midland puddle???

Nothing wrong with pink Ade. At one stage we had 2 pink boats. It was noted by a wise man that Roland must be very comfortable with his sexuality...

JOE, not me. I am quite comfortable in pink. My last contender was pink. I called it Pinky and Stinky.

Lost my reply when Hayley chipped in about Roland's penchant for pink

Definitely want to look at kites Ade...

...when? Where? Happy to come to your puddle or meet at ours...

Busy next 2 W/Es...except we might sail at Bartley this Sat...though looking there's no wind (helping Julia [no. 2 daughter] prepare her canalboat for a farewell cruise on Sunday - she's moved to London from Oxford and is selling  :-X )

Notts is out on 22nd due to rs400 open. We could do rutland? Whitwell Lodge, north side of lake. Rutland is a BIG lake and not a puddle for 'spinnypuddle' testing though; any thoughts?  i think it is £10 for day ticket(not sure)

Well Ade you and I had great success with my new Hyde Buzz kite. It fitted perfectly. Dontt use a Sobstat though the shape and cut is horrid. The Hyde buzz kite is almost exactly the same as an MPS kite so that should fit also.

Let me know what date you arrange and I'll try and make it. Always up for a bit of Cherub shenanigans!
