Starting Out
« on: February 27, 2012, 08:06:47 PM »
Hello all,

We're two uni students really interested in getting into the Cherub class and circuit.   We'll defiantly be coming to chat at the Dinghy Show, and we're looking to pick up a '97/'03 rule boat to get involved and up to speed.

Does anyone know of any boats lying unused and potentially wanting to be sold in the sub £2500 range? Funds are a bit limited at the moment!

Hi Lucian & Tom,

Welcome to the Cherub forum ! Please do come and chat to us at the Dinghy Show, I am sure we'll be able to find you a boat. Off the top of my head those on the For Sale list are pretty much those available. Locco Perro is sold, but Catananche and if you could stretch to it or come to a deal Cheese Before Bedtime is still available - however there are others in the fleet that I am sure will post here if there are any more anywhere.

Let us know where you are based, watch this space and you'll get more posts - if there is anything I can help you with please feel free to get in touch via the contacts page.

Hi guys. Look forward to speaking at the show. We'll have a list of available boats, and try and sort you out with a sail in the meantime.

what graham said :)
The pessimist complains about the wind; the optimist hopes it will change; the realist adjusts the sail

...ask if Shiny Beast was sold. She was on Apollo Duck until recently and is a very fast boat, though maybe not quite competitive with the big boys and girls under '05 rules. You might give them a surprise in the right conditions though. President Bridle will know more about Shiny (or know 'a man who can') and doesn't always insist on being called Mr President, do you Graham? (seriously...very approachable bloke)

Catananche is definitely one to look closely at, currently under '97 rules.

You will find (as we have) that the Cherub fleet is very welcoming,

...btw I seriously considered 'Cheese before bedtime' and it was a difficult choice between Cheese and Loco Perro. The decision was about suitability as a '97 rules boat and Loco won by dint of gear ieLoco's '97 rules sails were made for same mast as her '05 rules. Ask others...I think Cheese is fast, perhaps very fast in some conditions...probably light and definitely if v windy.

You could contact John Hamilton and have a chat.

Noooo, I dont *always* insist on being called Mr President. Prez is just fine as long as its accompanied by a salute or a curtsy  ;D

I have to say sir that the association is struggling to fund the men in suits and sunglasses who accompany you everywhere...and the private island...

Hi Lucian &  Tom
Come along and chat at the weekend, I'm sure you will find what you are after. If you can't find anything immediately come to the blast where we can sort you a ride or two as a taster.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone  :)

We're based in Reading during term time, and Kent otherwise so will definitely be along to the Sheppy blast, boat or not! We're also potentially going to get our uni club to cover the boat as a short term loan so maybe Cheese Before Bedtime could be on the cards.  Going to soften up our Treasurer with a few (several) pints and see what we can do!

Either way, looking to forward to seeing some of you guys on Saturday!

Anyone have any details on 2656 - Therapy and her current owner? She's lying at Burfield SC (our uni club) and looks relatively unused

The owner of Argument Clinic (ex-Therapy) is on this forum as Dave_Fudge. You could send him a PM.

Used to be mine, if I remember Dave was a military man with limited time, I will PM him see what the score is. 2656 is bulletproof, fun and often very fast !
