How come we as a class are not represented at the endeavor trophy were we not asked or did we choose not to take part

You have to be invited.

When Ben & I did it, Ben pushed the yacht club to include the Cherubs. I think as he was a Burnham on Crouch citizen at the time he new some people at the yacht club. Andy P didn't want to do it so as runners up in that years nationals we did it.

So get on the phone and lobby to be in it.

Yes you do need to be invited, and we dont get one, not sure when we last did, I know PB did it but he may have been invited as part of his other successes.

It has been suggested to me that as a rule of thumb, you need 50 entries at your nationals to be invited, note thats as a rule of thumb,  not a rule as clearly there are classes there that dont fit that bill.

I contemplated a bit of light lobbying this year, but didnt get round to it, I doubt it would have made much difference as with a finite number of boats available presumably its a one out one in arrangement, I have mixed feelings about its usefulness to the class, if you win great, if you dont - not so great and given the difference between a xenon and a cherub I'd hazard we'd be nearer the latter which may add some fuel to certain fires....

I can vouch for the Xenon no playing to a UK Cherub crews strengths, both myself and Ben had lost our hiking muscles due to dangling off bits of wire. This doesn't help when sailing against the majority of classes invited that are hiking classes.

I think Graham is right and there are likely to be several more classes ahead of us in the no.s of boat s at nationals.

Sadly you will need someone who can hike.  I'm not sure if you have to sail with the same crew you won your nationals with.  This would also limmit our success generally being a bit on the light side. 

All I can say is I have beaten Nick Craig several times in the Ent fleet most of which were by getting a better start.  In one race I actually sailed past him on the course. I've seen his last race match racing tactics deployed on several ocasions and been glad not to be on the recieving end.

You dont have to sail with the same crew, when Eddie was Mirror champ he was ditched for a heavier model, seemed a bit dumb to me to ditch your only clear advantage, the you might be 60kg lighter than the rest of the fleet but hey ho. Good job we're not bitter.

Helen and I competed in the Endeavor in 1995.
It was in RS400s. She steered, I did pretty much everything else. I remember it being hard work. Lots of races in lots of wind. Lots of booze inbetween. We were stupidly light for a 400. I don't remember where we finished.

As part of RS's promotion they had offered passenger rides for spectators between races. I ended up taking some guy for a (ahem) 'blast'.
He was wooping and screaming and getting really excited. (Probably a good thing because all his noise stopped me nodding off.)
His over-reaction was confusing me until I asked what he usualy sailed..  "A flying 15".

I remember Guy Lewington doing it once with Alex Windsor and vowing never again.
