Autumn Newsletter
« on: September 21, 2011, 09:49:28 PM »
You should all have received the Autumn Newsletter, this has been made to take news to interested sailors that may not always visit the forum, and generally try to stimulate interest.

If by any chance you dont have it, check your junk, then you can read it here instead http://www.uk-cherub.org/newsletter/newsletter-201109.html

Of course if you know anyone else interested, please forward it at will.

Any feedback, good or excellent, please post it here. Any feedback not in those categories please mail me direct  :)

Enjoy.

I absolutely loved the newsletter! It came in to my inbox at 9:15 and I'd read every word by 9:30. The email didn't display properly on the iPhone, but the link to the webpage worked perfectly. Very well written, a great message, can't wait for the next one.

Might have to fight it out with Alex Paterson for that one, ISTR she was that sort of age when she first won a Champs.

in 1997 Alex and I were simultaneously the youngest and oldest national champions -  at 13 ( and 5 months ) and 45 (and a bit.)
So Eddie is indeed a  little bit younger, and I did a few more wins with various crews until  2005  ( age 53.)

On the feedback front, Charlie, Sam and I sail in Chichester Harbour, not the west country  :)

Sorry Ben, gives me a new section for the next newsletter correcting previous mistakes.

Andy, we'll need to get the calculators out, actually Eddie was 13 years, 5 months, 9 days old on the last day of the nationals. I dont know where we might find out the end date of the 97 nationals !

The 1997 Nationals were 14th - 17th August.

Which is all fine if you were comparing like for like boats. Sailing a 2005 rules cherub far out strips the physically effort and skill required of a 1997 rules cherub. In my book Eddie wins hands down, sorry Andy.

Sailing any cherub takes real teamwork. Just to compete, let alone win a nationals with your son, daughter or parent must be a fantastic experience and a great achievement. Sailing with your other half is up there too - I reckon the highs are higher and the lows are easier to get your own back for!

Apologies to Bloodaxe boats, we had and incorrect link to their site in the newsletter; it should have been http://www.bloodaxeboats.co.uk. So now you have the link, no excuse not to buy one  ;)

We do now.

Alex birthdate is 28th March 1984 and won on 17th August 1997 making her 13 years, 4 months, 20 days old.

Eddies birthdate is 10th March 1998 and won on 20th August 2011 making him 13 years, 5 months, 9 days old.

So Alex retains youngest ever (unless anyone knows better) holder of the Simpson cup, by a whopping 20 days, nothing he can do now about that one now so its over to the other youngsters out there.

As a matter of interest, and a thin attempt to restore family honour, who might the oldest holder be, I am 102 you know ?

In another thread about a month ago you were 24 Graham!  You've aged fast!

When you Lee, Ching and possibly Kirk get older they may be challenging for the youngest crew although I suspect their mums and dads might then be challenging for the oldest winners.
