Northern Event 2011
« on: March 23, 2011, 07:56:06 AM »
We're keen to keep a northern event for the class, and Simon is trying to find a suitable event for us to attend. Seems that there are two viable options.

1. The launch of the "Great North Asymmetric Challenge" at Bass SC on May 7/8, you can see the details http://www.bassenthwaite-sc.org.uk/ - we were contacted directly by Bass to see if we wanted to come.

2. Filey Sailing Club Regatta - details here http://www.fileysc.co.uk/ on 25/26 June.

This is how they would fit in with our other events :-

7/8 May - Bass
14/15 May - Whitstable open (Traveller Series Event)
25/26 June - Filey
9/10 July - Thornbury open (Traveller Series Event)
16/17 July - Royal Victoria YC (Cowes)
30/31 July - Weston skiff open (Traveller Series event)

The purpose of this thread is to try to gauge support for either event, especially as last years Sunderland open attracted just 3 entries and it was on the way to the Nationals. Personally I could attend either and will attend whichever is voted for, they both look like good opportunities to show off Cherubs.

Show of hands please ...

My vote is for Filey because I prefer sailing on the sea.

Maybe we should setup a poll in the members forum?

I understand that we were contacted by Bassenthwaite as part of a mailshot sent to many class associations.

Sorry, further diary checking reveals that Bass is not an option for us, sorry Simon I know I said it was, so... I vote for Filey too. 2-0 to Filey, come on lets try and get at least 6 up there !

I vote against Bass, as it is the single worst shiftiest flukiest hell hole i have ever sailed at

As you can tell i do not have a significant opinion on this matter

Team Trim think Filey is an option. At a wedding for the May date.

Need to confirm we can make it a long weekend and combine with a visit to the outlaws, if we can then there is a very strong chance we'll be there.

For 2012 I vote for a Largs date for 2012, do they have a suitable open?

Bassenthwaite is very picturesque, great club and on-site camping. But the open-water sailing in the bay at Filey is hard to beat. Last time I was at Filey they had no clubhouse - it had fallen off the cliff into the sea or something. But that was about 15 years ago so I guess they've built a replacement by now. I'd like to do Filey, boat and baby permitting.

Excellent, I suggest we contact Filey SC to let them know we wish to attend and the results will count towards our Travellers Trophy and to ask if we can have our own start.

Filey gets my vote. Although I do remember not being able to come ashore mid way through the day as the tide eats the entire beach.

If this is the final concensus I will contact Filey and see if they mind us joining in.
