What - Regatta at Royal Victoria YC (Cowes)
When - July 16th - 17th

From their news letter:
We look forward to a great turnout of cruisers as well as dinghies and National Squibs. The UK Cherub fleet have been invited to bring their extreme boats, a far cry from the Cherubs in which Club members Merris Catton (1969) and Gordon Williams (1972/3) won the Nationals.

You don't suppose that means that they are still in contact with those two do you? Merris Catton especially was on my "want to talk to" list. There's a possibility she may have been the first woman to win a UK National Championships in any class.

Sadly it will probably be years before I get all the work done Queenie needs (unless of course I get made redundant in the current recession, in which case I just won't be able to afford the materials)

If it helps I think EJ will go for a swim at this one. Does anyone fancy a "flotilla crossing" on either Sat AM or the Friday?

Nick and I have this in our diary and intend to be there.

The club may be able to organise a big discount on the cost of the ferry crossing. I will need to give them an idea of numbers. If people could 'express an interest' by 18th March, I can give the club an idea of numbers looking to use the ferry.

I would be keen to sail accross, but I think I would still like my trolley and covers and a bag of clothes over there.

Would settle for tent, tools and clothes  (one large estate car between several boats?)

Will start working on a logistics package for those wanting to saling accross.
Anyone wanting to ferry over should post here so Stuberry can help you with a ferry deal.

For those who fancy arriving by sail:
As a loose plan would delivering the kit you want on the Island to Thornbury the week before and it being delivered to Weston the week after be a starter?

I think we'll be up for this, either sail across or ferry. We should hopefully have joined a solent club by then so might be able to arrange launching.

In the days when there was a Gurnard open, we used to sail across from Lepe Beach. The Gurnard rescue boat would come over and you bunged your bag of clothes and a sleeping bag in to it. The club were quite happy for us to spend the night on their floor. Not quite sure if a boat would come all the way round from Royal Vic though. (South-East corner of the Island if I remember rightly).

I have a hazy recollection of one of the best piss-ups of all time in the bars of Cowes, Bob Clements (class president) buying the entire fleet a curry on his company expenses account, and then Davro pushing me home to the club in a shopping trolley, past the Royal Yacht Squadron. The only downside was we got becalmed on the trip back to the mainland on the Sunday evening, and I had to be at work in Dundee on the Monday morning. I think we made it with an hour to spare.

may not be able to sail for this one, but if people are wanting to sail over i could borrow my dads rib and take trolley's/kit if people would like? as its looking like i may well be down that way looking at houses! over that week/weekend.

plus gives those of you wanting to sail over some sort of safety cover...

Tim are you coming back to the Solent?
Years ago we all sailed across from Lepe Beach in the moths.
I will have to check if they have started charging there.
We would like to go but it may be one to many hurdles at this stage.
That is not a no but more of a when we work out how with easier events we will think more about it
