Wow, what an incredible weeeknd! Back to work with a bump today.

The club was as welcoming as any club could ever be. A fantastic send on Saturday made the 5am start totally worth it.

I can't wait to go back.

Born Slippy rocked our socks off on Saturday. With a steady force 5 to bounce us between wave crests it was one of those outings that makes you grin for days after. No photos from on the water, but there are some lawn ornament shots to follow.

RV is definitely a place to return to. We are in two minds about round the island or on the island.

The only negative was us forgetting how to hoist a non-socked kite. The first run was epic, but we rushed the second hoist and it jammed. A few minutes later the entire kite flopped into the water at 15 knots we had a very funny broach and swim.

So this was our "rig" on the ferry. It raised a few questions:

If the ferry sank and assuming we could get the car and trailer off the ferry and in to the open water...

1) Is there enough buoyancy in Born Slippy and Ronin to float the trailer?
2) Is there enought buoyancy in Riot Van to float the car?

If so, with Ronin and Riot Vans rigs available, go go Honda Sketch Express!

Since the minimum volume of a cherub should be 260 litres each boat will provide about 260kg of bouyancy when fully immersed.  Since the trailer is carrying the masts and quivers etc.  Assume the weight of two boats is about 140kg. Add the weight of two trolleys about 40kg.  I would say that the two boats and trailer would float.

using the same figures for the boat on the car and I would say that as long as the car weighed less than 180 kg there is a chance.

this is all assumin that you left the bungs in the boats!  ;D

Don't forget the buoyancy aids in the car!

Doesn't this assume there is no buoyancy at all in the car? It is immersed too, so has some buoyancy (just not as much as it has weight). Then there is the 'hard' buoyancy like tyres and pipes, and the 'soft' buoyancy of the air in the cabin and within the chassis.

Anyway - it still sounds like a sinker!

We dropped in on Bill McCutcheon on monday afternoon before we left the island.  Really nice guy.  After his initial understandable bemusement at being doorstepped by a couple of quite damp cherub sailors, he told us how he had built and sailed more moths and 14s than he could remember, but the cherub was still his favourite.

I'm pretty sure it would sink too. However, if you had enough time perhaps you could make a long snorkel out of all the spars sealed together into one long pipe with gaffa tape. Attach this to the engine's air inlet and perhaps you could drive along the seabed until you got to the beach. The question remains whether there would be enough air in the car though. The average person at rest consumes about 250ml of oxygen per minute. Air is 21% oxygen and there are 4 or 5 people in the car. Touch and go I think.

How is this careful equation impacte
d by the general amount of hot air on board?

Good point Hayley. On second thoughts it would probably float, thanks to the large amount of methane gas emanating from all the bulls**t. :)

I do believe that the presenters of top gear have shown it takes quite a bit of expanding foam to stop water getting into a car. Will, i had forgoten about the tyres and any components with a lower density than water.  it would be interesting to weigh a car in water to find out weather a cherub could really save it but very messy.
