I will do a bit of digging, I was not the source of this but where we ended up made sense to me…

I will say that with the current usage of foils a flapped foil bares no benefit due to the large range of angle of attacks we run so it doesn’t cause too many headaches having it in there anyway

We got to a point by which we decided that rules can be changed and updated but having the vote to decide wether this was to go through to give team A&e opportunity to change the boat over winter was more important than delaying rules change by 3/4 months to have the perfect wording on day.

Also we are still a development class, we still want people to try things and if you can think of some other foil arrangement that fits within the new rules where a flapped foil may work then please build it, show up and let’s see what it can do!!!

Please could you point me towards the motorsport definition as i am struggling to find one, there appears to be no definition in the FIA regulations where it seems to be used due to being the english translation of the french 'élément' to mean part or component.

My interpretation would be the exact opposite of your understanding, a foil with a flap would be two elements and a wingfoil one piece moulding would be one

I believe this was discussed internally and the basic end of the conversation was something like : through motorsport a single element is fairly clearly defined so we don’t need to generate a definition for what is already out there….

My understanding is that flap on the back of a foil is part of a single element foil, a kite foil/ wingfoil that has two elements is two elements even if formed as part of a one piece moulding

Re rule 4.1.9 Anti Full Foiling Rule - Only one hydrofoil generating lift in a vertical axis and comprising one element is permitted.

What is the classes definition of element? as it is undefined in the equipment rules of sailing the technical rules are based on

Crew Search / Again
« Last post by dave_ching on August 09, 2024, 05:20:01 PM »
It is that time again!
Eleanor needs a crew.
OM is a trully brilliant crew, but without some drastic surgery for both of us, we are unable to find all of Eleanor's true pace.
Are you or do you know of someone who is 75kg or less,
would be able to  practice at least once a month and do events?
If so conract me and we can try flying a kite.

Well done Andy and Jill for winning the X'th National Championship!

Its really encouraging to see the fleet as a whole grow (we got 12 boats this year) and improve (we had many races where the top 6 were together all the way around the course
So thank you and thank you to Dale YC for hosting the event, It's definitely a place I'd love to go back to (just with some water)

Trying out a top down view of sailing.

It mostly works but I think I may need to mount it a bit higher so that it is possible to see the kite and a bit more  when on the other tack.
