Hi Paul,

Slight direction change…. Was chatting to Andy W, let’s fix up and backdate Loco to 97 rules.

Some fixes are due to some damages he made (jib track 13yrs ago apparently) and others are just knocks and scrapes over the years.

I have an old 97 rig so can bring that along if time allows (lob off 1m from the old mast). Main focus will be fill and fair the hull, however I can grab a tin of White too

Hi Andy
The best paint to bring is 2k car paint. To pick a color either go to local Halfords and pick a car color from the reference swatch or  look through a RAL swatch. Car paint suppliers can mix to these references. A lot of the RAL colors are more vibrant than car colors.
If you get 2.5L it will be enough and have some spare for future touch-ups. Also get some hardener and some 2k medium speed thinners

Calendar Events / 2026 RYA Dinghy Show Cherub Class Stand (21st - 22nd Feb)
« Last post by paul_croote on October 01, 2025, 07:48:21 PM »
The stand is booked for the show. Marmites going to be on it after a freshen up and new sails. We also plan to have a 55" tv playing video. The cost to have electric on the stand is an additional £420! I have checked with the organisers and they are happy for us to run the tv using an inverter and batteries. I have an inverter but we need the use of two 100AH leisure batteries for the weekend. Lithium batteries are not allowed so lead acid or similar would be ideal. Can anyone help with this?

Who's up for a stint helping the stand? depending on numbers I might organize a Yeo Valley Joinery sponsored Airbnb and have a social on the Saturday evening.

Hi Paul,

This would be amazing!! If we go option 2 for the sake of time, could we colour change Loco….. I was planning oem white, then Daryl sent me their original ideas, and Evan is keen on lime green or Cadbury purple

Could I bring the mast to varnish too? It’s also showing the weather

Fab I’ll get us into a local lodge.

Thanks

Andy

Hi Andy
It's not a problem spraying a boat during the sticky weekend depending on what preparation you can get done first.

Option 1, Back to new looking. You will need to sand right back, fill any dings, prime (Green Ti primer is best, can be brushed or rollered on). You can then de-nib ready on the Saturday ready for topcoat early evening.

Option 2, Freshen up. If you can get me in time to start work early on Saturday you can key up the current top coat, fill and prime any patches, then we can topcoat early evening. It's likely that it will gain a bit of weight with this option.

Either of the nearby Travelodge's are reasonably priced.

Hi Paul,

It’s in the calendar, myself and Evan would love to come along again. Projects wise not sure we have much to bring (other than Loco who needs a full respray and mast varnish….. which aren’t really suitable for this wknd I’d imagine).

The old trolley cradle is for a 200 and has come adrift from the mount…… that is on the to do list! Or just build a new trolley slightly longer and moulded to the hull.

Never know, we may get her out in Oct and find something to bring to the party

Which hotels do you recommend for the Sat night?

Thanks

Andy
