The UK Cherub is a two-person 12 foot racing dinghy with asymmetric spinnaker and twin trapezes. Just twelve feet long, weighing around 70kgs fully rigged for sailing, the UK Cherub combines spectacular performance with the “on the edge” handling characteristics only found in true lightweight skiffs.

The UK Cherub rules are simple and allow for maximum flexibility for designers, allowing boats to be created to incorporate sailor's own ideas. Also meaning the class develops over time as techniques, materials and ideas improve. All this makes the Cherub one of the most interesting and innovative of all dinghies: The challenge extends from the sailing skills to setting up the boat to suit the sailor, and maybe even designing and building, too.

Spring is coming and our Open Meeting Calendar and NOR has been published. These can be found here: http://www.uk-cherub.org/forum/index.php/topic,2249.0.html

We have 6 open meetings scheduled all kicking off with the Season opener in Rutland on the 25th/26th of March. Rutland Event details can be found for this here. Please note the Clean and Dry requirements for your boats. http://www.uk-cherub.org/forum/index.php/topic,2271.0.html

The Feature event for this year will be the Nationals. This year they are being held at Stone Yacht club from the 19th till the 22nd of August. We look forward to seeing a large fleet at this event as it’s the first time the nationals have gone east in a good few years.

Class memberships are also due for the 2017 season. We will be implementing the membership structure that was voted on at the AGM last year. The main difference here will be the Event Membership. As per the updated Open Meeting NOR all competitors (helm and crew) will be required to be class members. The event membership is reduce single event member option for new cherub sailors. Once this type of membership is paid at 3 events the sailor will become a full/student member of the class for the rest of the year. The goal behind this is to position the class in a better financial position for future years. Details on how to pay membership can be found here. http://www.uk-cherub.org/doku.php/shop

Last not but least we would like to wish all classes attending the boat show this weekend the best of luck. We have decided that as a class we will not be attending this year as a break was needed to solidify our footing financially to be ready to grow in the years going forward. A few of our members will be at the show observing while others will be hard at work prepping for the first event.

Happy sailing
