Antidisestablishmentarianism

The Cardinal Sin Project continues apace with some real space-age technology to show off.

The T-foil rudder nears completion: After several months of steady progress the T foil tooling and special machined parts are coming together for the first time now.

This T foil design uses a specially manufactured helical gearbox in the tiller head. This allows fine adjustment of the T foil blade from a twist of the tiller extension on either tack.

These first parts are designed to be very robust and are CNC machined from stainless steel and Acetal. The design itself is conceived to be fully serviceable; in a matter of minutes the full assembly can be stripped down for maintenance or repair. The design is also modular which would allow an owner to start with the basics (foil tiller and blanking plates) and work up to the additional parts required to complete.

Pictures are of the gearbox assemblies, foil & axle assembly, and the axle bearing plates.

The first Cardinal Sin, Cherub 2693, Subtle Knife, had the wing bars put on for the first time today. Clean and neat!
