has anyone got any old rs800 masts lying around that i can use for mast stumps and rack tubes?

Hardy advanced composites in alnwick ias a good bet, they have all sorts of offcuts.

2x Angel and 1/2x Superspar I think. I have PMed you with the price I have been given. I think it is best to make my own tubing for racks etc but I am still new to this, I am learning as I go along.  ;D

For the longways tubes I think that masts are overkill, but are spot on for mast stumps. For the sticky out wings they should be OK

As Phil A says RS mast sections 800 or 600 will be ovekill for longways rack tubes.  The Boom on Slippery was an RS 800 mast where as the boom on E-numbers ws made over Paul's mandrel. The Boom on Slippery is twice the weight of E-Numbe's boom. various layups were suggested in the thread on racks cook books.

The racks that Andy P supplied me were 3.4 kgs together and were 2.6m long each. Dimeter about 50mm.

If your racks were twice the weight your boat would be much closer to the 50KG minimum weight.

To get the optimum weight and the lowest cost either make your own or scavenge.

To get a pucker product and save sometime but paying 30% more i would buy tubes as I did. They are stock tubes so reasonably priced.

I think the boat will start life with a RS600 mast so I will only be buying spreaders from c-tech. Im going to hold off and wait and see if Ian C wants to get rid of his C-tech one. Happy to order spreaders when you are ready to save on shipping.

A while ago I priced up making carbon tubes against buying stock tubes and there was very little in it.

For my first boat I made tubes from glass uni's and cloth on a drain pipe mandrel, they worked OK and would probably still be lighter than bits of mast. and still quite cost effective.
