Davro is Dave Roe. Multiple nats  winner and legend of legends.

This was a completely amazing weekend: good turnout, good breeze. Really good racing. Good curry based foodstuffs. I am really going to suffer on my bike in the morning!

4 races on day one, three today. Predominantly lighter airs. Shared open with musto skiffs and b14s.

Too knackered to go now.

I appear to be one "Arup" logo'ed kit bag short.
If anyone has seen it or has a contact number for the club it would be much appreciated.

A great effort by the RC over the weekend with very well run races with true courses.  Spliting fleets could be possible if the committee boat was central with a start line on the starboard bow and a finish line on the port bow.  Requires a little organisation but it is then possible to get starts for one fleet going whilst a later fleet is still finishing.  Used to great effect in the spring and winter white fleet on the solent.  It does of course place a reliance on sailors knowing their basic flags.

I really enjoyed the event much partly due to the excellent crew work from Simon who taught me a lot and helped me gain confidence in the boat.  We did find the starts difficult due to the dirty air caused by the B14's which appear to more controlable and manoeuvreable at low speeds.

I kept thinking I was in an Enterprise with more momentum and manoeuvrability and 90 degree tacking angles.

The windward mark and run was the place to overtake them.  Smooth bearaway over the top of them. Hoist ,hook on and leave them for dead.

I was surprised that we were able engage in a little gybing duel with Riot van at one of the leeward marks pulling off three pressured low speed gybes without swimming.

The race management was slick although the course choice did not allow the RO to finish lapped boats earlier.  I would have opted for a single course with longer beats for the faster classes and or start the fleets at 3 minute intervals .  When sailing with multipule starts you do have to look out for the other classes.

We didn't realy get any bad feeling from the B14's.   We were trying to go for clear air and avoid getting too close to other boats where possible.   One beating B14 did suggest we (running) should go behind him rather than cross infront.  He was either being kind or assuming that we were beginners. I acknowledged his request with a freindly ok as it was my intention to soak behind him.

I think sailors need to be firmer with bad language and behavior between boats.  And perhaps a few more protests would stop the bullies from getting away with it. A firm shout of protest and get on with the race. They may respond with more colourful language adding more ammo. to your case.

I have started penning a report which I will submit to Y&Y and put on the front page.  i need some stuff to go in it though. eg. funny incidents top moves and happenings from the fleet on and off the water.

Any help would be appreciated.  I can't recall some races.

£3 chilli. Camping at chez Lewns. Kipping at chez Jones. New house at chez Tinner!

Race 1: Long. Light airs with occasional puffs. Antidote rounded ahead of Usagi. Usagi then soaked away to a massive lead and went on to win. We caught them up a bit each beat, but they disappeared downhill each downwind leg. Shifting NEly breeze in the beautiful sunshine.

Race 2: A bit more wind. Antidote. I think this is the one where E numbers and Usagi and Antidote were all really flying down the run, but the issue was settled by both Usagi and E numbers taking a swim.

Race 3: Bit more puff. I think this was the one where Antidote got to the top mark first ahead of all the B14's. A few past us when the breeze went right down again. Antidote.

Race 4: I was a ruin by this stage. Antidote.

Cloudier. A Wly wind filled in at ~5-7 knots, so after a postponement we were off.

Race 5:

Race 6: (may have wrong race) Usagi lead the whole way round until a late surge in the wind allowed Antidote to catch up and give gas to Usagi by gybing on their air. That was a completely new experience for me. I don't think I have ever (been on a boat which) used windshadows tactically downwind in my life (quite an admission I know...)

Race 7: Riot Van was second. The sun came out and the wind switched round to a thermal NNWly before reverting to a stronger SSWly where it stayed and built for the rest of the day. Dave Roe and Maf Kiddle went for a long awaited burn in the Pasta Frenzy.

Racing was finished for the day.

Memories: Mostly the luff of the kite and the block on the floor which I have to pull the kite halyard around.

Race 5 antidote led from start to finish

Race 6 usagi lead on first beat, antidote caught and over took but on last run usagi caught up an enormous with a devastating amount of speed requiring antidote to gybe and cover for the last few yards into the finish.  Boats finished overlapped.  Very exciting.

My memories were of Will saying how fit and stong Lucy must be to crew.

Great time I hope was had by all.

Race 7 Usagi lead the first round, Antidote passed them on 2nd beat.  Usagi rammed by B14 on 2nd leeward mark lost 2 places, large windshift turned race into procession.  Riot Van 2nd, E-numbers third.  Wind shift gave good blast home.

No guessing which aspect of upwind/downwind Usagi will be asking Pete to concentrate on during the training day.  Antidote upwind speed simply too hot for all other Cherubs (and B14's......)
