Where is this sticky weekend exactly? I will hopefully be getting Flat Stanley this weekend so I think it will be a good chance to meet some of the class. Is anyone going to be going from the Southampton area?

Does anyone have any resin which i could trade / have / borrow / buy ?? I have plenty of carbon if anyone wants to do swapsies?! I only need enough to laminate my daggerboard our supplies are just low at work and I have no time to get any more before the weekend.

Thanks Paul for another excellent sticky weekend! On this occasion blanks were cut and shaped for multiple daggerboards, rudders and t-foils from a variety of foams and woods. Stu also vac bagged his centreboard layup to leave him with the longest centreboard in cherub history at 1.9m! This will no doubt be cut down as it is rather ridiculous as it stands.... pics to follow. Phil and Sarah managed to laminate their Boom and Pole for their new build which both came out exceptionally light and stiff. The Locoists did some chopping and changing of their t-foil to try and increase their downwind speed as with their current arrangement they were hitting a 15 knot wall which needs to be broken!

Yes: Snaps to Paul for hosting another corker:

1) Two blanks were shaped from cedar using Paul's excellent Template Technology (tm).
2) One of them was laminated and vac bagged into the Board of Doom. If you are a slipway, watch out!
3) Loco's T foil was cut and shut, and the join between the t foil and rudder was sharpend a la Cheese. They will now have better bow control to help with the Whistable chop.
4) A new T foil design was cadded and templates made for contruction.
5) A t foil blank was routed.
6) Two rudder blanks were routed using a tablesaw (finger count = exactly 10 per person afterwards)
7) Oh yes I almost forgot: A pole and a boom were made.

I think that is eveything, apart from the excellent curry.

Thanks Paul for letting us have a free reign in your workshop.  The paint booth was ideal for laminating our pole and boom.
I would like to acknowledge the technique and knowledge transfer that occurs at these events.
Ideas used and proven this weekend include:
Vac bagging with DIY store plastic dust sheet and no tacky tape. brilliant Trim idea.
Double wrapping heat shrink onto carbon tubes and giving it a bit of heat between layers. Tim Unerman idea
using a sheet of polythene to transfer wetted out cloths to the mandrel.  Great for handling long cloths with two people.  Tim Unerman idea.
Creating templates for routing foils.  Allows several foils to be routed quickly to the same shape. Paul Crootes idea.
Using bottle jacks to remove mandrels from booms and poles in control. Roland Trim idea.
Spreading resin with plastic spreaders (made from ice cream container lids instead of rolers and brushes. free and wastes less resin. Phil Kirk idea

Sarah and I need to get the final layer on our pole and boom and then post cure. by then it will be really really stiff.

I'm really glad that the locoists help didn't cock up the pole this year :-)
