Sticky weekend
« on: December 03, 2018, 08:45:45 PM »
I vaguely remember some mention of a sticky weekend being floated around. my only reason for asking is I have been thinking of making a carbon boom for both the cherub and the moth because they currently use the same oval aluminium section, but can't find anything equivalent in carbon readily available off the shelf. however I have no idea where to start with making one boom let alone two.
If in doubt flat out

Happy to help you make a boom or two, sticky weekend or not (but it would be nice to have one!)
First step is: where is the amazing Paul Croote mandrel?
Thanks
Jamie

I'd be up for joining in with some spar making too. There was also talk of making some Composite craft shaped centreboards but I assume we have not got hold of the mould yet.

Straight booms - piece of cake! (Jamie's special took rather longer, but we learned a lot about peel ply, bread wrap, and resin flow).

I have the pole mandrel, and would still like us to have a spare pole around for when someone needs one in a hurry.

And I would be very grateful for some expert help with converting EJ's 2-piece mast back into standard configuration. I know Roland would do it between races with a cup of tea in the other hand, but I'm not up to that level!

I can even offer here as a fairly central venue if that helps.

Hi All. Looks like it may tie-in with current workload to have a sticky weekend at my workshop (Weston-s-Mare) on the weekend 29th/30th of December. Sorry for the short notice. Who's able to make it? and what projects do you have?

I’m keen to come up for some sticking, happy to lend a hand with whatever people want to try and can bring some bits and pieces, although looks like I can only make the Friday/Saturday

Possible that I’ll make it with boat in tow and a few beds for people to crash in!

Hi All

The Xmas date has proved to be a problem for most (understandable with the short notice) so, it's now programed in for the 6th and 7th Of April (sorry not going to have room until then). Who can make this date?

I should make it baring something going really wrong.
Wouldn’t mind punching out some daggerboard skins in the new moulds that weekend (unless there is something more important)

Can bring sewing machine if someone wants something doing (kitesock/sail repair etc)
Thanks
Jamie

I would like to build a boom, does anyone know where the mandrel is?

I will be purchasing 200g plain weave, 300g uni, peel ply, heat shrink tape, resin and parcel tape
If in doubt flat out

Finalising my plans;
Will probably involve something with the daggerboard moulds, either a new skin under guidance or fitting some kind of core to it.
I’ve got a mast I’d like some help/space to glue it together properly and spreaders (need to find some Sicomin 8200 I believe)

Then I’d really like someone to measure Poppy (official or not)  so I have a clear conscience, seems like the best place so it doesn’t stop any sailing.
Thanks
Jamie
