Sails and Mast For Sale
« on: June 25, 2015, 11:49:23 AM »
Oversize mast and set of sails for sale. This is essentially a No.2 12 Foot Skiff rig which was created to fit Born Slippy, a well-known Slug design Cherub. The sails are virtually brand new, having been sailed once only. The sails were made by Evolution Sails (Formerly known as Red-Eye) who made a lot of Cherub sails in the mid - late 2000's. They are in Bainbridge Kevlar cloth. They are matched to a carbon fibre twin-spreader rigged mast (ex-Int 14).

Sail sizes are:
Main & Jib 18.85 sq.m
Mainsail luff length 6.8m
Mast length 7.4m to the foot.
Asymmetric spinnaker 42 sq.m

This rig will fit straight on to a Slug design Cherub, and could be made to fit most other Cherubs with a bit of tweaking. In it's current form it would provide the opportunity for high-speed out of class blasting. Alternatively, it may be possible to cut down the mast and working sails to create an inexpensive 2005 Rules Cherub rig.

£500 for the lot. No offers!

Ring or text Neil on 077899 52835 or PM me via the forum for further details.

This was the first (and only!) time we actually rigged this up. The bowsprit was way too short, and we hadn't got any tension on the uppers. But you get the general idea.

The only time photo I have of sailing with this rig.... Teething troubles are obvious - the main halyard had slipped a bit, the top batten was still inverted and jib sheeting needed a bit of tweaking. Still went like the clappers in the gusts though.

So why did it only get one outing? Well, rather than go through the process of sorting it out properly, we decided to take the lazy route and went and bought "Grumble & Grunt" - a fully sorted Woof 12 Foot Skiff with multiple rigs, which had been imported by Bob Clements. Born Slippy was sold to Roland, and the 12 rig has been languishing at the back of my garage ever since. Actually, if anyone's interested, Grumble is for sale too if you want to own a full-on Australian 12 Footer. No reasonable offer refused!
