Looking for 2650 "Geriatric Gigolo", earlier "King Tubby"
« on: February 26, 2015, 11:46:51 PM »
I'm on the hunt for another old Cherub now. Does anybody know the current whereabouts of Cherub 2650, Paterson 6 design, originally named "King Tubby," later "Geriatric Gigolo". Interesting ply/glass/carbon construction. I believe it was in the Hexham area in 2005 (just up the road from me), but haven't heard anything of it since. Any clues?

There were rumors of it being at datchet.

I saw it in the undergrowth at Datchet, but I'm struggling to think when... It was a day that I was returning Monkey Magic to the boat park, but I hadn't been sailing it. It must have been at least 5yrs ago at a guess.

If someones looking for it, the boat is painted a deep red and looks a lot like a P7. It's on a box type trailer and I remember the mast, which is a carbon superspars, is laid accross the boat in 'towing position'.

The owner was a chap called Ian Watts, who's email address I used to have, but I can't find it now.

Unfortunately the only "Watts" on the forum member list is "mwattsb14" but I'm pretty sure that's not the right guy.
It would be a real shame for 2650 to be lost from the class. It's an innovative design and construction, and was very successful, having won the Nationals on at least one occasion IIRC. Let me know if anybody knows any more, it would be great to have it back in action!

I spoke to Ian just before Christmas and he said he still had King Tubby, Not sure he is sailing it much at the moment. Cant remember where he said it was in Essex though.

Theres definitely a red boat in the bushes at Datchet, near Monkey Magic - saw it there about 3 weeks ago. Both boats sadly without covers.

If anyone has contact details for Ian Watts, please can you send them to me via PM.

If he is willing to sell, I know somebody who might be willing to buy 2650.

I'd suggest talkign to Rich Bower.
I was talking about KT at the show, apparently she is missing a few fittings (i.e. has been stripped by marauders) and needs a bit of work.

Hi all. Just in case anybody's interested, I did manage to find the exact whereabouts of 2650 and have spoken to Ian, the current owner. He tells me the boat hasn't been sailed for a while now, so he is looking to sell King Tubby if anyone's thinking of buying a '97 Rules Cherub. For various reasons I haven't done a deal with him, so the boat is up for grabs. If you're interested let me know and I'll pass your contact details on to Ian.

I now own 2650, just need to find some kite sheet blocks and sort out the control end of the kicker and down haul. Then I just need to find some time to get out sailing.
