New Build
« on: October 13, 2014, 01:20:27 PM »
As many of you may already know i have taken the step to build a new hull this winteras Madge is starting to show teh strains of having a large rig and t-foil on her.  Jo and I are also ready to make the next step in the learning curve of Cherubs.

So i decided to take some baby steps and not build the latest and greatest but build a stepping stone boat to a slightly older,  fuller hull design.

I have managed to get my hands on the Deamon molds (hull, deck, crossdeck brace and t-foil) and will be building the boat over this winter.  The idea is to re-use everything off Madge except for the hull so the rig, foils sails, fittings and ropes will be moved across once the hull is completed.

So on Saturday we started this new hull by laying up the outer skin of the hull mold.

Big thanks to Tim and Dean and some of my wifes work friends who came round to help with the first big layup. I will try keep the photo's and this thread up to date as the build goes on.  I won't be a very quick build but i hope to learn a lot as we go.

Very odd.  it seems to be missing a load of updates i've done in the past

anyway deck is now on and will start working on the racks once i'm back from South Africa.  Everything is still on track for the nationals.

If anybody has some suggestions onthe best way to do racks and where to source the tubes  please let me know.

Hi Nick,
Rog Angell would make you tubes to what ever specification you require.
For wing bars it is important to have a very high radial content. The most likely failure mode is during collisions or sharp points on the slipway when rolling.
I would make them with 100% woven cloth at 0/90'.
Alternatively I would contact:
http://www.carbonfibretubes.co.uk/ on Hayling or

Woolmer Forest Composites http://www.woolmer.co.uk/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=3_130 in Rickmansworth.

I would then 3d print bits to make them all fit together that can be carboned over. Cutting complex interconnecting shapes into the ends of the tubes can be very time consuming.
