Bad News!
« on: December 11, 2011, 08:17:20 PM »
Hi guys, after having an eventful year or so trying to get sailing SB again,
i have managed to a couple of times in the last month

HOWEVER...
Starboard tack in the wire was next to impossible for me to get comfy and last more than 15secs before i had to come in off the wire,Port tack i could last for ages! Had to get physio and have had numerous opinions(all sport specialists) this weekend and my left knee is extremely weak, and have been advised to avoid sailing for a good 2 years while strengthening my knee.

So this means that Suicide certainly won't be getting used by me, i don't want to see her go but i know just how much good cherub sailing is and want to allow others to get the use out of the boat that it deserves,

Open to Sensible offers around the £1000 mark
Has the following:

Yellow hull, Black cockpit and white deck temporary to try and sail her.
modified to 05 rules (as you all know)
2 mains 2 jibs and 1 spinnaker, one set brand new dynamic sails(only hoisted to check fit) and other in very good condition.
Daggarboard rudder with t-foil ready rudder stock, plus daggarboard (both in good condition.
3 tillers,
All ropes and blocks in good working condition, some systems have new ropes.
Mast is in need of a varnish.
Brand new combi roadbase (soverigen) only covered under 100 miles.
Made to measure undercover, and top cover off an rs200 that fits but could be replaced.
spare ropes and blocks.

going to miss it but needs to get used!

Could someone put it in the 'For Sale' section for me?

Many Thanks
James

Hi James,

I'm new to the forum and haven't sailed Cherubs for years (plan to again soon, hopefully if my teenager 'behaves') but I have had a lot of knee problems and I'm a GP.

Work at it, strengthen the muscles etc and give it time.  Don't sell your boat!! (unless you absolutely need the room or the cash)

I can't give you medical advice but I can encourage you to be patient and work at it.  Have you been told what it is/might be?

I had cartilage problems caused by muscle weakness leaving them susceptible to injury.  First knee was weak and painful for a year after surgery but then settled.  It is now mostly fine and hasn't stopped me sailing and mountaineering.

When my other knee went I had surgery quickly and it settled more quickly.  I had 'unusual' cartilage problems ie not the usual medial meniscus tear.

Of course it depends what is wrong with yours but believe me muscles are as important as joints and ligaments and physios can often help more than doctors in treating most knee problems.

Also - sometimes the medical system needs a little gentle pressure to make it address a problem appropriately.  Stay respectful but don't 'let them off the hook if problems are persisting.

At one time I thought I'd never walk normally again. . . I have other medical problems but my knees are fine :O)
