sailings most famous pop song
« on: October 07, 2011, 09:56:49 AM »
Men at work did "land down under" in 1983. It was adopted for through 1987 Perth Americas cup and became a part of the furniture for sailors everywhere. i have the album "cargo " on cassette.

Well it seems the famous flute riff was v similar to a well known folk song. oops!

Most famous sailing song ? surely Rod the Mod has that in the bag with his 1975 vomit inducing mega (s)hit "Sailing". Mind you he pinched that from the Sutherland Brothers so maybe we can haul his ass through the legal system. Certainly deserves it for offences caused at every wedding reception, ever.

Am I ranting again ?

If you are, I'll join you. I hate that song with a passion.

You can't: he gave the credit and paid the royalties and I'm sure Gavin Sutherland was *extremely* grateful!
I think that Men at Work were pretty unlucky to lose that case: always seemed a bit of a marginal call to me. Mind you the judge thought it was pretty small too bearing in mind the size of the royalty award.

"Single handed sailor"
Its not that famous though.
