HELP Broken mast SWEET DREAMS

Does anyone have a suitable replacement mast for SWEET DREAMS?

I have a 2 x solid RS600 masts. One is in bits to provide extension/stump and sleeve. They will all need joining together and spreaders added but I don't think is is a massive job. PM me if interested.

Where is it broken? As Jim says, post a picture and I am sure it can be repaired quite easily. I fixed a mast out in the open in a back garden with just some glass, carbon and bin bags to keep it dry it is still going strong so you'd be suprised what could be achieved at the Sticky weekend in a workshop.  The mast on Sweet Dreams is a nice Angel mast so would be better repaired than bodging something else together.

Born Slippy has built several successful masts in the last two years so has the know how to help you carry out a repair.

For any break a repair would consist of:
Measuring the distance between 2 points either side of the break so that the repaired mast is the same length as it was before. It is easier to use a shroud point, spreader or mast foot than mark additional datum points on.

Cut back the damaged material and sand a long chamfer into the end of each part of the mast.  This chamfer can be 4-5 inches long.
If a tube can be found to fit snugly in side the mast (and can be extracted afterwards this can be used as a mandrel. If not a carbon sleave needs to be made to bridge the break. The sleave is often bonded in first and allowed to cure. 

new carbon cloths are laid each about 2cm longer than the last until the thickness of the mast is reached and the chamfers have been covered. A final layer may be aded that extends past each chamfer.  The laminate of the repair may not be exactly the same as the original but should include weave as the first and last layers with unidirectional cloths in between.
Once cured track and fittings are replaced.

The mast has broken about 500-600mm from the top spreader so the tip.   I I presume it was  originaly a RS600 mast??
Where is the sticky weekend??? and when?

I think that the mast was a purpose built Cherub mast, as it was a lot longer than a 600 mast originally.

The 'Sticky Weekend' is November 26th/27th in Weston Super Mare. Good chance to meet some class members, eat curry and learn some new skills.

Your mast could easily be repaired in the weekend. Not sure who your nearest Cherub'er is to offer assistance before that. Where in Notts do you sail? There may well be a boat going to Carsington at some point soon.

I think Matt mentioned that the mast was damaged before where it lost 2ft or so from the tip making it a bit stiff.
I am worried it will be even stiffer once the mast is repaired?
How long is a 600 mast mine measures roughly 7M

I believe that the mast was shortened from it's original length when it was upgraded to a 2005 rules rig.  This brought in a mast cap limmit. The mast was shortened above the top spreaders leaving the spreaders about 800mm from the top of the mast.  I recall this from a few years ago when the boat came to thornbury.

It is possible to fix at the sticky weekend.

This is planned for the 26th-27th november in Weston Supermare.  Just south of Bristol.
The sticky weeekend is intended to benifit class members so I would encourage you to consider becomming an associate member for the tiny sum of £10. You will learn a lot though and get to meet a great bunch of people.

As others have said the sticky weekend would be an ideal place to learn how to fix your mast. If your struggling to get there then i may be able to help you with a repair on the mast. It is/was one of the nicest cherub masts around or certainly was when I owned the boat.

Anyway, i'm based in Ashbourne about a mile from Carsington, but i'm sure I could help/guide you through fixing it if your stuck.
