Hey Guys,

I just joined the Cherub forums and the class as an associate member.   I'm in the USA, Tampa, FL to be exact.   I know that the class isn't that big in the USA but I have seen that Skip Kovac has built a boat here ( If anyone knows how I can get in touch with him that would be awesome).   I chose to join the Cherub class because I want to build a boat and was specifically looking for a double trap fast boat.   I was originally looking at I-14's but the online class support looks pretty low.   The support for Home builders here looks amazing compared to what I have found for other open classes.

Thanks,
Mike

Mike,
Welcome.  I was also very impressed by the support and information about building Cherubs available from the Class.  I am building a boat in the Middle East.  I started with a set of offsets for the hull and build information from Andy Paterson so not starting from scratch.

Good luck,

Doug

Hi Mike,

Welcome! Another US boat - that is good news. Are you thinking of designing your own?

Thanks guys,

Will_Lee I am planning on getting some plans from Blood Axe boats for my first attempt.   Although I have been playing around with hullforms I have a file from this website for the Patterson 6a, so been playing with the lines on that one.   I found a link to the Ellway 5 on the site but the file was not there kept getting an error.   Are you in the USA?

On a side note I am teaching my girlfriend how to sail right now.   I am teaching her in 420's that the University she goes to owns.   By the time I get this Cherub built she should be a pro, will be a bit different though on a trapeze with a spin up planing down the back of waves :)

Once I get started building I will post picks of the build for everyone, I have already aquired most of the wood for the jig, so have taken the first step.

Mike

Hi Mike,

No - I am in London, England. I was a student for one semester in Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1998 though. I Enjoyed it very much. Everyone said I would have felt differently if I had experienced the extensive snows they have there, though I had spotted the small fleet of iceyachts they had in the rafters of the University sailing club!

Umich had JY15's which were an enjoyable sail. The oddest thing to British eyes was the motorboat: A 30 foot long and 6 foot wide aluminium punt with an 8 horse outboard on the back. Oh yes, and the tornadoes!

Good luck with your build!

Best,

Will

We have lots of build photos. PM me an email address and I'll sort an upload over the weekend.

A description of what went into each part of EJ  (i.e. layups) is given on 3206's page on the main site.

I'msure that Kevin elway will be happy to provide the lines for the E5 or E6 for his small fee.

I can also provide photos of our build at various stages and some of the layups that I used.

As others I am happy to provide advice of how i did various bits and the techniques employed.

I can also provide the weights of various parts of the boat so you have a target to work with.

you will need to work out the amount of materials but there are estimates on some of the threads in the forum.

Good luck

There are NO fee's for the BANSHEE.

Craig_guthrie ( he's in Nova Scotia ( he's a member on here ) has the BANSHEE frame files and was making one, all though it has all gone a bit quite after he came back from coaching at the Chinese Olympics.

Hey Guys,

thanks for all the replies.   As of right now I have started setting up my garage to build.   Should have my plans for building by the end of next week I hope.   And be able to start on the jig next weekend.   I am playing with design lines for my second build (thanks for the Banshee link darryl),  as I'm sure my first build will leave me wanting a more refined build, ( I'm a big fan of Kaisen :)

I am searching the web for tutorials on Nautical Architecture/design/engineering, and am trying to locate the gougeon bros book from the library system.

I will get some pics up once I start the Jig
cheers

I have a full set of frames for my Banshee mod design. Sharper chines and 12 style snout. Whilst they wont be of any use to you they are free to go to any prospective cherub owner this side of the pond.
