Mast swap?
« on: December 08, 2008, 07:49:00 PM »
Before I chop 3 feet off the bottom of my mast, does anybody have one which is too short and want to do a swap? Seems a shame to shorten a reasonable mast when it could happily go on another older boat etc.

It's around 685cm at the moment, twin spreader converted Superspars. The only bad point is that it's been broken halfway up and resheathed... a little off vertical, so halfway up it heads off to starboard at a degree or so. It's been like it for years and still keeps the rig upright..ish  ;D

I only need something 594cm long.

I think you'll find that it's the bottom part which heads off a little to port actually Joe!

Send a pic of Taking Liberties. I've heard the story, now I want to see!

Rather foolishly I took her up to Grafham on Sunday without taking any "look at my new pointy bits" photos. I'll see what I can organise this weekend..

Also might be persuaded to part with a few pennies if anyone has a decent mast which was snapped at the gooseneck etc.

Check the market place thingy. IIRC there's a couple of 600 masts up on there.

You are probably better off with what you have than an RS600 mast. It's funny: People think that because some RS600 masts appear on Cherubs they must be good. In fact they are so bad that they are often given away free. Don't go buying an RS600 mast - if you get given one free then thats a different story.

That's almost free!

(It'll be a fine mast for stanley - without uppers all that stiffness does something useful!)
