Rudder stock flange.

One of the many things I didn't do this nationals was to look at everyone's rudder stocks.
Does anyone know how big the plate making the bottom gudgen should pertrude around the stock?

Currently mine is quite big/heavy and could quite easily be a second planning surface.

Guess you're on about the flange around the stock where the bottom gudgeon is?

Of all the stocks I have, 2 are I14 stocks - these have about 0.5cm all around, but more at the front and back. I also have an aardvark stock which split up the back edge (including the flange). this has perhaps 0.75cm around the sides, but it tapers out slightly towards the edge.

Not at all an expert, but from this, I'd have guessed between 0.75 and 1cm all around, with plenty of material around the trailing edge to tie the back of the stock up.

What thickness of plate are you using?

That fillet on the turbo foil (whats it made of?) looks to have about 15mm overlap onto the flange?

I'd trim it to that, leaving a smooth curve on the trailing edge, and obviously plenty of area around the gudgeon hole on the front edge - based purely on what i have before me, all my stocks have greater than 10mm material all the way around the gudgeon hole.

Though there are far wiser people than me on here, but I'd suppose the 15mm material all the way round with that thickness of plate would be sufficient, just avoid any sharp corners.

Sand the bog fillet, laminate over it. Then trim it all off flush at the base of the fillet all the way round. (apart from at the front where you probably want more to put the hole in it).
