In response to your question Jim, I was wearing my Gill drysuit its new this year. I used to hate wearing a drysuit but they have moved on and are much more mobile and light these days. I also moved on from my old teddy fleece for under the drysuit which used to get damp with sweat so then I got cold, I now am wearing the Gill layer system so I had 3 layers ontop and two on the bottom so the i2 layer and i3 layer and then a very thin fleece jumper to add to top. It all sounds a bit fancy and to be honest to buy all this kit would be quite costly, i was lucky to have Gill sponsorship last year. However i can honestly say I am snug as a bug in this and still reasonably mobile as not bulky like kit used to be. However my hands are the issue and will finish me off on the water fast than anything, so any solution there would be great. I currently use the thick Gill gloves which are great if I can keep them dry initially and after that movement keeps me warm but saturday when the wind died it all went a bit wrong.

***TIGER TROPHY VERY IMPORTANT UPDATE***
Written by Bruce Bonar
Thursday, 05 February 2009

In view of the current weather and the deteriorating weather forecast a decision will be made at Midday on Friday 6 February as to whether The Tiger Trophy will take place this weekend.

We have considered all the issues caused by the weather forecast for the weekend. (Issues of people traveling to the event, Issues of safety around the site with ice and snow everywhere and the temperature and snow forecast). The organising team will be meeting on Friday morning and will make a final decision then based on the forecast and advice from road agencies etc.

If the decision is made to cancel the event we will contact all entrants by e mail and post the info on this website and the Tiger Trophy website. We would urge you to check this website or the Tiger Trophy website www.tiger-trophy.com  for more information.

Alternatively you can contact the club office on 01780 720292 from midday on Fri 6 Feb.

 :'( :'( :'(

Oh well. Maybe winter sailing is overated anyway.

Short sharp club races at home in warmer coastal waters are easy enough.
But travelling 4 hours through snow, to rig in snow, do 3 back to back races in icy middle England lake water and the prospect of more snow falling on the long Sunday eve drive home was starting to be a big ask on my enthusiasm.

I am sure it was the right decision. 200 boats being towed down snowy roads is not sensible. And limited fun to be had in those temps. I expect we would have had ice forming like thew BM. I was going to take and a bag of salt & bucket for sheets etc and a can of de-icer afloat! (De-icer on the decks can not be as slippy as ice, can it)

We do however now get to complete enough races to count a series at Lym Town SC's Jan/Feb perishers series now!  :)

I don't think that having the Tiger Trophy in July is a bad Idea at all . A couple of weeks before the nationals, sounds like the perfect time for an all out Cherub attendance, maybe we could put it on the events page/calender.
