Paterson 5
« on: November 11, 2008, 11:25:41 PM »
The restoration of 2631 (a Paterson 4 ) continues slowly on. The decks are almost fully prepared, I've just got a bit of varnishing to do, and basically that's the hull completed.

I've been looking back through the History section of the website again, and there seems to be a Paterson design missing. We have 2623 (Pxyzyzygy) - P3, 2631 (my boat) - P4, and then 2650 (King Tubby) - P6. Andy, if you're reading this, or anybody else who knows, what happened to the Paterson 5 design?

Hi Neil,

Unfortunately no info from me regarding the P5, but...

I saw the P4 yesterday, Wreck 'n' Effect. It's sitting in Smilies barn! The boat appears to have some legendary status. The first Cherub with twin wires! And the first with an assmetric kite? I know Smilie would love to see this boat sailing again!

Massive props to you Neil for all the hard work you're putting into 2631. No updates since June, how's she looking now?

As far as I know, 2631 was the only Paterson 4 actually built, so it's more likely the boat at Smiley's is a P3. What's the sail number Mr G?

2631 is just waiting for varnish. The hull is all rebuilt, faired in and repainted, and the decks are stripped, patched and sanded. I'd like to say the decks aren't finished yet because the cold weather conditions would be sub-optimal for the grand piano finish I'm planning, but actually I'm just too soft to spend the evening in the garage when it's -3degC outside. I've got an old wood-burning stove lying about which I was thinking of installing in the garage, but after seeing what happened to one of our mates across the Channel, I'm not so sure that's a good idea!

2623 pxyzsygy is a P3 -   Bob Clements bought it from me and fitted 2 wires and asymmetric kite.  Last seen with Smilie, with very wonky gunwales at the shrouds.
2631 is a P4, now restored by Neil.
The P5 was designed but not built ( a development of the P4,  a bit flatter, less curvature in the bottom panels )
2650 King Tubby and 2651 were P6.
2651 was supplied as a shell only, was very heavily decked by the owner and very heavy and slow. Redecked more lightly, but for sale for a long time, unloved and eventually broken up.
