I’m hoping to get my 97 rules boat to the Nationals this year, 2659, I too haven’t done much in cherubs since the 90’s, it would be great to get a 97 rules “Vintage” fleet going :)

I'll be there with ducks. Aim to get new mast set up and general fillering here and there. Since you offered Jamie a coat of durepox would be most welcomed on my mast please!

Keen for social, there's a pretty big dub band playing a concert at the 02 Acadamy... I'd be more than thrilled to go there for a birthday boogie!!

I’ll be there to replace the forestay fitting on the bow.

I’ve found a place to stay in Weston S-M for around £45.

Trying to keep costs down,  but happy to drive into Bristol for the social.

Can I get an idea of the number of people going?
I have a plan of doing a bit of a social on Saturday night in Bristol if anyone is interested.
I have looked at hotels and they are around 150 per room.
I'll send links to possible bars/clubs when I have a better idea of numbers.

Panels added at rear added, one side rolled perfectly, one cracked and needed faring and carbon adding on top… more carbon to be added to reinforce hopefully pro grip will hide many sins!! Rear kickbars mocked up but yet to be installed they were a touch small but will easily be able to add extra material to bring them up to height with the foreward sections

Glad your having fun. I have Monkey for club fun and a faster one for the events.
We would love to see you at events.
I sail monkey with either my wife or 12 yearold son. They really are fun boats.

Hi all - I know there was a thread on this a few years back but thought I'd start a new one.

Having owned a few Cherubs in the 90s I have got hold of 2669 (Catananche) and got her going at my home club in Essex (photos on Facebook page - can't work out how to add anything here). My additional weight gained in the intervening decades means we're screwed in anything under F4 but been having a great time nonetheless.

Was wondering if there's still anyone out there sailing an old boat like us - and if so whether there's any interest in getting out to an event. Would be great to have some company, as long as the fast guys don't mind us taking part.

Neil Cardno if you're reading this - have you still got a boat in the garage?!

Cheers, Stafford.

So something about a rule change requires a saw taking to A&e :(

Progress so far:

Completely strip all fittings

original daggerboard case unblocked & Daggerboard test fit is a success!!

Mast stump/ compression bars removed

Cut a lot of starboard deck off and try not to damage bulkheads in process

Cut less of the port deck off

Remove 2 foiling daggerbaord cases

Laminate carbon where foiling cases used to be, fill with foam and sand fair so the outer hull shape should be pretty, luckily the way the cases were installed leaves this area “sunk” relative to the rest of the hull skin so the outer skin of carbon we apply won’t mess with hull shape!!

Remove carbon tubes running through hull for wand controls

Original mast position unblocked(half done, will finish when we have the new mast stump so we don’t make the hole too big!!)

Stick some carbon foam sandwich in where v2 mast position was and re seal small deck hole

Remove jib track ears

Trim front of wing bars to shape for mast moving backwards

This required kickbars being trimmed off the front, best keep those bits so I don’t have to make more to put on the wheelie bars later? ( are they still called wheelie bars on a solid deck boat?)

Started cutting carbon foam panel to stick on the back for said wheelie bars not yet complete…..

To do…. Finnish and fair the  new edges of the palypen edges….. carbon and vac bag underside of hull shape and glue on panel to back of boat
Use heat gun to remove pro grip from deck
Start planning where I want fittings to go….
Start planning twist grip t foil adjustment
Lots more that I will worry about when we get closer to them!!!
