Today we collected the E6 from Mike, we have set ourselves three weeks to complete her however this is very optimistic (completley unachievable). Still in for a penny.... There seems a lot left to do, as the hull needs preping for paint and Mike is finnishing the foils and boom. Then just the small matter of fitting out
and getting some time on water before the nationals. Will post some pics soon to show our progress.
-
Excellent news! Now you have a name you can make a boat page to log the project so we can all follow the progress, happy building!
-
Do you not mean 3208?! Or have we just gone back in time to the mid 70's?!
Excellent news all the same though! ;)
-
GOOD LUCK
-
Stop reading this and get back to work, there is no time to waist.
-
Perhaps it might be 3208 good job we havent got around to sticking those sail numbers on yet :D
Spent today covering nice carbon with filler then sanding it off again. It also seems that the more you do,
the more things you see that need doing. To all that have built their own boats RESPECT.
-
Very nice! How far back is your mast? Looks a long way back? Or did you take the picture with a wide lens?
-
Looks sleak. i think paul said yesterday that the hull is so skinny you really want one for each foot.
All the hard work pays off in the end. But you are right there is always more to it than you think.
good luck!
-
What a fine looking ship: can't wait to see you on the water again!

looks awesome simon :)
amazing how quick these female moulded boats are built!!!
-
Fitted the spreaders today ;D
-
is that a c-tech?
-
Yes, however it was ordered to be 20% stiffer with a shorter top section. Just got to add the rest of the boat to it now. Really looking forward to the nationals, but I feel there will still be a lot of bimbleing to be done.
I can't think of a better place or bunch of people to bimble a Cherub with than at Largo.
-
The new BGM mast will have a 1.9m tip - have you gone shorter?
I can't find the previous thread that had the spreader positions form Aunti in it. It would be fun to do a compare and contrast...
Hmm, typing this I remember I was 1/2 way through a conversation with Davro about the spreaders - if you are reading this please PM a phone number.

Are you crewing it heavy? Umm... uber fine forward sections and an extra stiff mast with less tip response, I am seriously in ore of your sailing skill already! When I eventually get around to having a mast built ( rather than the old stick I have at the moment ) I will be going the other way, nice flexy tip for me. Thank owning the 'Trifle' ( in original spec ) for that view point. Good Luck with her though, she looks might fine. No pun intended. ;)
-
The lower spreaders are 2700mm from the mast base to the bottom of the spreader bracket. The tip is 1850mm with the top spreaders just below the join. I must add that we can take no credit for the spec of this mast as Tom sorted it out. However seeing how stiff Ronins mast is we hope that somewhere in between is a good compromise.
-
Had some fun rigging the mast today, also got the foils and boom.
-
looks awesome :D

Did you hang on to Loco's sails then? This is just a guess but wonty the jib be a bit small?
The boat looks great. Will you be ready for the nationals?
-
Yes we kept one suit of Loco's sails and although the jib is a little small, it was always getting caught on Loco's mast. It seems to fit well enough for us to use for the nationals as I don't believe we will be pot hunting this year with our lack of preperation, which answers your next qeustion we have to be ready for the nationals. Hopefully the boat will be painted this week which will leave a couple of weeks to fit her out just in time for Sunderland.
-
A bit slow perhaps but just got the link to the name.
'Gone in 60 seconds'
final car
Shelby GT500 Mustang
code-Eleanor
Dean's love of cars.
fast(est) boat
A perfect match!
Brilliant name
how's the boat finishing going guy's?
-
Alot flippin slower than the car!!
-
10 days to Sunderland!
-
We still hope to make sunderland. However we are not due to get the boat back untill next week!!!! AAARRRGH.
We did dry fit though so should still be possible depending on what day next week. We are still going to the Nats even if we fit out on the beach.
-
It sounds like you are getting on OK
The first Nationals I did with my first cherub build, I got the main and jib half an hour before I left to drive down to the event.
I had still to fit the mast out.
Fit the center console
modify a rudder to fit,
and do most of the controls.
I finally got sailing on the last day of the event, but it was well worth it.
-
Ummm... I'm not so sure I enjoyed my experience of that situation. Working like dogs for the week before on Loco, almost 24 hrs straight the night before we had to travel down to Weymouth. I drove, was so knackered I could hardly stand up ( I think I threw up having got a migrain ) and then fond out I was sleeping on the caravan sofa which very sensitive people would not get off of until god knows when in the evening. I went to sleep on a park bench. We eventually got sailing 3 days into the Nationals if I my memory serves.
If doing it again ( oh I just have ) unless everything is nicely under control I wouldn't rush a boat to get to the Nationals. Maybe I'd go to say hello etc.. . but not with a boat I'd had to rush to finish. I found it all to unpleasant, fruitless and expensive.
-
Hmm the joys. Good morning to you to one and all. Hope the sun makes you smile and lifts your heart.
After sensibly not rushing to the 2009 nationals, is the Ambulance ready for 2010? Nice to see you are at least at peace with the world around you and hold no grudges.
-
The Ambulance is ready. The crew is not however. So as much as I'd love to help scotlands improvement in climate by driving up and increasing the planets thermostat a little more. It's not going to happen, sorry.
-
At last something shiny to play with.
-
That is extremely shiny, looking forward to seeing it get wet
-
Will you have to listen to Low Rider by War every time you go to sail it, with a little pep talk?
(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7eQe_t_z2WM for all those who do not get the reference)
-
the boat looks stunning. good job the cherub only has a few fittings to put on unlike the merlin or a 505! see you in scotland.
-
Good luck with the fit out.
We just did some check measurements and found we were a bit long on the snout. AAGH! 2 hours later the boat is shorter and has a new shackle carboned on it. I think everthing else is about there.
Well, what i mean to say is there we were all smug and thinking Dean and Simon have a bit of a project ahead of them only to find ourselves in the same situation. Still inending to be at sunderland though!
-
Top job!
-
Thanks to all for help and advice at Largo we had some great racing despite being complete numpties.
For those who sadley couldn't make it a couple of pics of Eleanor all sorted (ish)
