A first view of the draft calendar for 2019. We need one more meeting in the mid September to mid-October space. Any ideas please PM me. We also need a Nationals and/or a class to share with, The 4K's are going alone as it is the Euros and the Solutions are going to a place that I think is unsuitable for Cherubs - Felpham SC (lovely place but potentially very dangerous for carbon masts and cherub foils) so we need new mates or a club that will run a nationals for less than 20 boats
The calendar is shaping up as follows:
23/24 March - Rutland SC - shared class event - (confirmed)
13/14 April - Stokes Bay SC - shared class event (confirmed)
18/19 May Isle Of Sheppy (confirmed)
22/23 June - Grafham Water SC - part of their asym regatta as per 2018 (confirmed)
13/14th July - Weymouth Dinghy Regatta (confirmed)
Mid Sept - mid October - ideas please
2/3 November QMSC (confirmed)

Regarding ideas for the Nationals - Ken and I sailed at Torbay Week regatta in August 2011 in the 12 Footer. It was a 3 or 4 day event as I recall, sailing from Paignton SC off the beach with loads of room to rig and launch. Really well run event with a big separate course for asymmetrics. There was definitely another asymmetric class there using the event as their Nationals, although for the life of me I can't remember which class it was. They were kept fairly separate from the asymmetric handicap fleet. I thought it was a really good event. Just a suggestion.

Excellent work as ever Andy!
Thank you very much.
———EDIT———
I for one wouldn’t be disappointed if we went to mumbles again.
Plymouth is always spoken about as we have joe W to get us an in.
What about Bala?
ps. The Shearwater class seem fun/odd = ideal!

I believe the 4000s are off to Torquay next year
-
What about, Lee on Solent, paignton, filey, Bridlington, or Marconi?

Hi all we are still looking for a Nationals venues for 2019. Ideas tried and rejected so far are:
- 4ks - are a Torquay but as it is combined with their Euros they want to go it alone next year
- The solutions are happy to share but they are at Felpham - lovely club but very exposed beach launching which would be very tricky in anything over a F3 from the East through south to the west - so high chance of damage so not really suitable
- The Shearwaters are likewise happy to share but are at Brightlingsea which I have been advised would be nigh on impossible to launch a Nationals fleet at
One possibility is:
- The RS300s may share and are at Porthpean. It looks a suitable venue for Cherubs but their dates are mid September - how do people feel about that?
-
Ok for me. Are the 100s there too?
Reading stuff on various websites it appears to tick a lot of our boxes - have any of us actually sailed from there?
-
Mid September would mean at most I'd only be able to come for two days over a weekend because it's in term time, but if I'm the only student who's coming then there's no need to compromise solely because of this.
-
Mid September probably easier for those with family (who don’t sail). More difficult and get more grief for taking leave for sailing during school holidays! A lot of uni students don’t go back till Sept/early Oct.
-
If we can stay away from the 6th to 9th September then I'm good
-
300/100/cherub combo sounds pretty fun!
I’m in.
-
Mid September is close to some university starting and Southport 24hr race, so for keen student sailors it could be hit and miss!..
However, Porthpean is only an hour away from my student house next year which I might of already of moved in by then... So very keen!

The International Canoes are going to have their nationals on Thursday 13th June to Sunday 16th June 2019 in Plymouth. Is that any good for sharing with them? Sharing with another dev class would be fun, and Launching from Mt Batten would mean smaller waves than in Porthpean.

Any news on a location or date for the nationals?
-
Evening All, I'm afraid we are still working on a Nationals Venue and Date, as soon as we have something sorted we will let you know.
In the mean time I hope the winter projects are going well and hope to see lots of you at Rutland in a few weeks time.
Thanks
