Title: Aus Cherubs Invited to 12ft Nationals
Post by: Barbarossa on March 07, 2017, 08:27:24 PM
here (http://us2.campaign-archive2.com/?u=256ca7af2dd40ce0ad6fb1c4d&id=20ba75d1a6) Who fancies a trip down under next year for a 12ft Internationals?

Could be tasty! Although i would be worried that I would want a 12ft skiff rules boat after that

Would we be allowed to use the foils?

Looking at the notice of race the invite is only for Aus Rules Cherubs.

Can we ask them if they would extend that invitation?

does also state each cherub would be considered and then given a handicap, so foils and 05 rules should be allowed on that basis, but as you say its clearly in the NOR that cherubs which measure by the Aus rules class.

Could we not just be 12's and not use t foils?

Yes, I'm still smiling from day three of the Nationals.

The Aussie skiff classes usually publish both Handicap and overall results. Older boats and incompetent helms are given a goal.
The NOR detailed prizes for both.
Should we consider it?

I think we need to look at shipping costs.

How many boats could we get into a 40Ft container.  normally get 4 x 18ft skiff in one.

I wonder if the Kiwi foiling Rs could be invited and enticed over?

Would anyone else be interested if this could be done at a vaguely sensible price?
I think that some UK 18s are planning on doing the JJ next year. We may be able to get boats one way with them.

Lane cove is in the middle harbour. It is pretty shifty and restricted. I wonder if they sail out under the bridge past the opera house to race in the outer harbour.

The thought is quite enticing.

it would appear that a 20' container to Sydney is around £640.

If you can get 3 or 4 boats in that is less than a delivery to Garda.
I know nothing about the container rental etc.
Shipping boats to regattas is common enough these days.

Is a 20ft long enough for masts?  I know my mast is 6.5m long.  It could go diagonals across corner to corner but that would limit boat arrangement.

I think some of the cost would be import duty and taxs and and fees.  We would also need to sort where it gets unloaded (At the club or docks)

I would be keen if we could make this work.

Yes, I'm still smiling from day three of the Nationals.

Any cherub with a solid snout, not just a support, doesn't measure to the 12ft skiff rules.

That said, if there was to be an event between the Aussie cherubs, 12's, R classes, and UK Cherubs for a reasonable price, I could be interested.

I though that, but I couldn't find anything online.

The original link is for this years Aus Nationals.
This clashes with Weston and is a bit soon.
It does seem that there is interest in the idea of a global 12' regatta.

How do we make it happen?

Bermuda seems nice.
Better equalisation of distance too.

A transport sponsor would sweeten the deal.
