Title: Round the Island
Post by: ross_burkin on June 23, 2011, 11:44:03 AM
It’ll be my first round the island this weekend. Is anyone else sailing?  The forecast is looking a bit mad, between 20-30 knots all day.

3rd time for me, 2nd time as skipper in my boat.  I have a horrible feeling that we'll not get to use the kite as it is indeed looking a bit fruity for it.

Give me a buzz if you get into Cowes on Sat night and fancy a beer, 07792 888098.

Well...That was interesting! Conditions were testing. Several capsizes (mostly multihulls), snapped rigs (Gypsy Moth on the start line I believe), and 65 RNLI call outs along with several other scary statistics.

Muchos respectos to team Kiddle, who I bumped into at The Folly Inn. Sailed round in a 15" boat in 12ish hours and sounded like they were collectively broken but alive! I'm sure they'll have few words to add.

I didn't manage to get to Cowes. The promised water taxi service was useless.

How'd you get on Iain?
