The UK Cherub Nationals 2011 will be held at Lee on Solent Sailing Club from 16/08/11 - 20/08/11

This is an early warning to save the dates.

Further details will be released in due course.

The actual nationals will be 4 days as usual, Tuesday - Friday.

As its our 60th Nationals, we are planning a "Spectacular" on the Saturday that will include on the water specials and hopefully an off the water evening event. We want this event to attract not just the nationals competitors but other people that have enjoyed cherubs over the last 60 years.

In order for that event to be a success, it really has to happen on a Saturday, so it made the most sense to butt the nationals on the front so that people can run the two events together and have Sunday to travel / recover.

Of course more details to follow, but Neil is right to question the change and these are the reaons for it.

We'll be looking for absolute maximum attendance, so if you have a cherub, we want to see it there !

I preffered the latter week as discussed at the AGM.  The current dates clash with the Fastnet which i committed to in early november.  I will have to see if I can get out of it otherwise I will have not sailed at three nationals in a row.

I'm planning on coming. Sounds like it's going to be pretty epic this year.

My girlfriend (Lucy) and I are going to start piecing fuzzy back together in a couple of weeks over a series of long weekends (I have Fridays and Mondays off) and hopefully I'll start teaching her to sail when it starts to warm up a bit around easter.

I have no idea how I'm going to sort out logistics but I'll sort it somehow!

Sadly i'm not going to able to attend the nationals this year. going away on a family holiday in Weymouth on the 13th august

Ross, if you would like, i could tow it down when i go away, and drop it off on the saturday at the club (providing the club would be happy with this) and then on the 20th when i come home i could collect it for you and bring it back.

just an option for you that is there,

james

Time is short!
There I was thinking the Nationals are ages away, but then I looked at the calendar. Going off on my summer hols to France the first 2 weeks in August. Then take out the days in July when I've got work commitments and a 2-day trip to Scotland. That leaves 22 evenings. But I reckon at least half of those will get taken out by other general life stuff. That leaves about 11 evenings to get the boat fully ready and get in a trial sail or 2. Better get a move on!

I have spoken to LOSSC tonight, Camper vans / tents etc welcome in space behind the club. NOR will be available soon on club website, they will email me as soon as it's ready and also confirm the price.
Could anyone intending to go to Lee on Saturday or Sunday 13/14th please post here as the club need to sort boat parking with the council and pay a fee per boat per day. We are welcome to join in club racing on this weekend and also the following one if anyone feels they need to sail some more. The 60th celebration planned for Saturday the 20th has regrettably been cancelled, there will be a blast instead.

The club will also confirm the socials shortley.
Any questions please ask, and I will forward them to the club.

Carol has updated me with the current membership payments. We are 11 members down from last year.
There are a few people who are intending to be at the nationals who we haven't yet recieved membership fees from.

Association membership of one sailor from each boat is a requirement for nationals participation.
I would be grateful if you could pay by paypal before the event, post acheque to the Carol or pass a cheque to me during registration. If you pay by standing order please check that your standing orders have been directed to the new bank account.

Membership fees are used to promote the class and affiliate us to the RYA. The class committee offer their time in for free and use this money wisely for the benifit of the class.

We headed down to Lee-on-Solent this weekend and it looks set to be a fantastic week. There is a lovely rigging area and the sailing area even allows those on the shore to get a good view.

Entry forms, bargain price and the extensive social calendar will follow shortly (not from me :-) ).

Lossc have said that early arrival is not a problem as all boats will now be in the compound for the whole event. We are very welcome to use the club and have been asked that we introduce ourselves at the bar. I am speaking to Steve and Angela tonight and will ask about the possibilities of using the club on Monday for sailing.

My Spanish friend Pablo told me a story once of a great Spanish sailor who had long flowing curly hair, it was obviously very light weight but if it was windy he could take a dip and his water soaked hair would give him an edge upwind with the added righting moment!

Not sure about 'giving him the edge' but a great story :-)

Sorry I won't be attending this week, weddings, honeymoons and work have made it impossible for me to get the week off let alone not having done any sailing for months. You will no doubt have a glorious week of sun and wind in my absense so enjoy it!

Left behind kit: we have Digby's white rash vest and a small vanity box of nuts bolts screws etc. Any takers for the latter? Digby, if you want the rashy before the inlands just let me have a postal address.
Sorry Will - I didn't see your buoyancy aid.

Thanks to everyone for a really enjoyable week. My right thigh is sporting all the colours of the rainbow but it was well worth it for the 20 knot kite run and full somersault.

I was just about to put a post up here to see who's it was.  Let me know how you'd like me to get it back to you.

I understand there was some confusion post the event about the rule that if a boat hit the committee boat they would be DSQ'ed without a hearing.
It was included in the original sailing instructions at section 11 Marks and specifically under 11.2. This rule was also mentioned to competitors at the breifing.  I did not see a change to S.i'S which changed this rule so we should expect that it stands for the whole of the event. I have kept my copy of the s.i.'s if anyone wants to queery this further.

Sue they are fantastic ! especially the old ones, especially the one with the bikini clad beauty rigging the boat ! ah for the good old days !

And an action one with a capsize in the middle (I wont lower myself by guessing whose ancestor this might be !)

And ploughing downwind ..... only WANDROUS 698, must be the most photo'd boat !

Seriously Sue, we'd really be interested in getting these as best quality as possible, with as many names as you can put to faces on those pictures so we can make a "Southern Areas 19XX" page on the site for people to enjoy.
